Midnight Rambler/Break the Spell

Play the Let it Bleed studio version of Midnight Rambler and then seque into Break the Spell. Despite the 20 year difference, there's a similar audio mood going on there that really works well together.

Yes. I agree. I always loved Break The Spell too. I want it in the setlist. On the b-stage. That'd be nice. These 2 songs (MR and BTS) are the best of their dark blues tracks IMO.

In both of them there is a terrific harmonica work by Mick Jagger. I Love these tracks!

While some other tunes on SW might be the obvious faves BTS is a perfect little Rolling Stone hidden in the grooves. It's songs like these that constantly elude bands like Aerosmith, Guns'n Roses.

Break The Spell was THE first track that Mick and Keith came up with after calling a truce. Remember, Steel Wheeels was wtitten and recorded in a little less than 6 weeks. Good song.

Yeah, I always liked Break the Spell.....studio version of Midnight Rambler always seemed so weak to me after hearing the Ya Ya's version.

My favorite verison of MR is from Ladies & Gentelmen The Rolling Stones 1972,

Richards & Taylor work so well together on that one, Keith is really into it!

and that primal scream from Jagger really get's a reaction from the crowd!!

I know the topic is break the spell but I have to comment on Midnight Rambler.

I love the studio version because it is creepy, dark and trance like.

I love the live versions (not the speeded up or "vegas style") that let you hear raw power, build up tension thru tempo changes and just blow the roof off the place, like The Ya-Ya's version and the 1/18/03 version at MSG, which is on FF. I was at the show and that version was INCREDIBLE.

Midnight Rambler is a bonus, two great songs from one

I think Rambler is improved upon in the Ya-Ya's version.

(Much in the same way that U2 improved "Bad" in the live version on Wide Awake in America that followed the original on The Unforgettable Fire)

However, it is the feel of the Let It Bleed original version that is mirrored in Break the Spell.
