Did anyone see the comedy movie about the whole Carson, Letterman, Leno & NBC circus called Late Night, I believe, with Cathy Bates as a totally crass & raunchy agent? Hilarious! Opening credits read something to the effect of, unfortunately this story is based on real events....

The lesson is that part of it is the show itself. The Tonight Show has an established aura that greatly helped Jay. Letterman would have been great as host of the Tonight Show.
