Thought it might be fun if we have a thread where we can all comment on the proceedings in real time. Show starts in 15 minutes. Right now, I'm just waiting for the Dominos Pizza guy to get here.

This show proves one thing. They choose the worst "talent" (notice the quotes) they can possibly find.

This article skewers the telecast and the awards...if you mostly hated the Grammy's last night, you'll probably love this WaPo review.

I'd post it, but I keep getting the phantom error message whenever I try. Grrrrr...

Anyway, here's the takeaway line... "Moments later, when he (Ringo) was called back to the stage for an encore sing-along with Paul McCartney, the Grammys were suddenly doing the impossible: They were making the Beatles annoying."

The Stones got a lifetime achievement Grammy back in the 80's. the ceremony was kinda funny but not really.

<<The Stones got a lifetime achievement Grammy back in the 80's.>>

In 1986, just a day before the release of Dirty Work, the only public appearance as a band they made that year in lieu of a tour.

Here's a U.S. Today special the day after where the Stones talk about the ceremony and the award. And--HaHaHa!--Mick actually swears on TV, says "It's bullshit!" under his breath at 1:17.

Mick: [when asked by the interviewer "Why have they ignored your music?"] "I really don't know or care. I think all these award shows should be taken off the air. Banished!"

And here's the actual ceremony. The award was presented by Eric Clapton.

Grammys Draw Second-Highest Ratings in Over 20 Years

Sunday night's ceremony brought in 28.5 million viewers

By RYAN REED
January 27, 2014 6:00 PM ET

Sunday night's 56th Annual Grammy Awards earned divided reactions from viewers and critics, but one thing's for sure: people watched them. In total, CBS drew in 28.51 million viewers to the broadcast, beating out last year's draw of 28.38 million. According to the Nielsen ratings, this marks the ceremony's second-highest ratings in 21 years.

Dating back to 1993, only the 2012 broadcast brought in bigger numbers than last night. (That record-setting year brought in 39.91 million viewers and aired one day after Whitney Houston's death.) This year, fans relished the opportunity to vent about the night's performances on Twitter: according to Variety, approximately 15.2 million tweets were posted about the ceremony during the East Coast airing. The biggest Tweets-per-minute performances belonged to Kendrick Lamar's show-stopping mash-up with Imagine Dragons and Lorde's haunting and minimalist performance of "Royals."

From start to finish, it was definitely an unusual night – from Beyonce's sensual opening performance of "Drunk In Love" (with Jamie Foxx awkwardly complimenting her "talents" later in the evening), to Paul McCartney reuniting with Ringo, to Pharrell Williams' enormous hat and Daft Punk jamming with Nile Rodgers and Stevie Wonder. While those major moments were fairly well-received across the board, some viewers were perplexed by Katy Perry's funhouse-style staging of "Dark Horse." The awards themselves were largely dominated by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Lorde and Daft Punk.

Gee, a 0.99% rise over last year's viewer totals. Do you think this implies that it was the Paul and Ringo factor that brought in the extra 130,000 viewers?

Let's not forget? The Grammys forgot about them for 45 years. It's absurd that Voodoo Lounge won Best Rock Album, while none of the Big Four even got nominated. Of course, I don't think The Grammys even had a Best Rock Album category in those days, so they were having to compete with the likes of Jose Feliciano, and people like that.

Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr Reunite Again on Grammy Salute

Posted on 1/28/2014 8:27:00 AM by Gary Graff

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited for the second time in two nights on Monday (January 27) in Los Angeles during the taping of "The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles," which CBS will air on February 9 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the group's first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show."

The duo performed "With a Little Help From My Friends," which Starr sang on 1967's landmark "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album, and then led the entire all-star cast through the finale of "Hey Jude."

McCartney also played five Beatles songs -- "Magical Mystery Tour," "Birthday," "Get Back," "I Saw Her Standing There" and the "Sgt. Pepper's" title track -- with his own band, remembering for the audience that the Fab Four wasn't certain the Sullivan show was a good move when they were invited back in 1964.

After asking some American friends for their opinion, "They said, 'You don't understand the importance of 'The Ed Sullivan Show' in America.' And I didn't understand it then."

Starr, meanwhile, played "Matchbox," "Boys" and "Yellow Submarine" with a house band led by Grammy Award-winning producer Don Was and featuring Peter Frampton and Toto's Steve Lukather on guitar.

The show also included a jam on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by Joe Walsh (Starr's brother-in-law) and the previous night's Grammy Award winners Dave Grohl and Gary Clark, Jr., a duet on "Something" by Walsh and Jeff Lynne, Lynne and Grohl's rendition of "Hey Bulldog," a Eurythmics reunion for "Fool on the Hill" and Stevie Wonder recreating his cover of "We Can Work It Out."

Other performers on the special included Maroon 5, Katy Perry, John Mayer and Keith Urban, Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys and John Legend, and Pharrell Williams and Brad Paisley. The full song list for the show, hosted by actor/rapper LL Cool J included:

Maroon 5 - “All My Loving," “Ticket to Ride”
John Mayer and Keith Urban - “Don't Let Me Down”
Ed Sheeran - “In My Life”
Alicia Keys and John Legend - “Let it Be”
Imagine Dragons - “Revolution”
Katy Perry - “Yesterday”
Eurythmics - “Fool on the Hill”
Pharrell Williams and Brad Paisley - “Here Comes the Sun”
Dave Grohl and Jeff Lynne - “Hey Bulldog”
Joe Walsh and Jeff Lynne - “Something”
Gary Clark Jr., Walsh and Grohl - “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”
Stevie Wonder - “We Can Work It Out”
Ringo Starr - “Match Box,” “Boys,” “Yellow Submarine”
Paul McCartney - “Magical Mystery Tour,” “Birthday,” “Get Back,” “I Saw Her Standing There,” “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band”
McCartney and Starr - “With a Little Help From My Friends”
McCartney, Starr and ensemble - “Hey Jude”

Wow, you've got it all covered here. The Beyonce and Jayz 'performance' in particular was vomit inducing, and set the tone for the rest of the show (which I thought too strongly resembled the AMA one which was bad).

Robin Thicke and Chicago. Were Robin's parents even born when these songs were hits?

At least no twerking this time around. I'm waiting for the Willie segment to see who he has with him. Hopefully real country folk and not the new brand.

Chicago played great & were in good voice. Last thing they needed was Robin Thicke rapping around in front of them. tongue sticking out smiley
enjoyed oldies best....Lindsay Buckingham, Carole King, Stevie Wonder (who could've done a whole show, the amount he got to sing of his own work was just a teaser & certainly didn't need to play on that get high & lucky tonite song (or whatever the hell it was,) Willie & the old country, like to at least hear from Ringo & Paul. We may never see the likes of some of these again.....sad smiley
