In the crowning glory of British Tabloid press ie: The Sun it states that today is Ronnie Woods 30th anniversary with the Stones? True? He supposedly played in New York 12/05/75.....

It would be 30 years since he joined the Stones, great addition, to all you people who complain about him, he has been a Stone longer than Bill Wyman was!

Congrats, Ronnie, you're still the baby, and you'll
always be, but you're a true Stone. See you on the next tour, same place, front row on your side with the yellow banner, maybe this time ON stage!!!!

his first show with the Stones was the tour announcement in new York on 1st May 1975. His first actual concert was in Baton Rouge exactly a month later on his 28th birthday.

He didnt officially join the band until February 1976 however.

The Sun hasnt got it quite right, for a change!

There's only ONE Ronnie Wood !

There are a lot of Ron Woods.
A brilliant one, an average one and a poor one.

But he's the only one I want for the job. A true Stone indeed.

MLC for someone who claims to know so much about music you really have nothing to add to this board that is interesting.

Wow, 30 years have gone by in the winking of an eye. I remember well when it was announced that he would be taking the second guitar chair for the '75 tour and how excited I was about that because I ahd always loved his Faces stuff. I hope this time 'round he will play more of the guitar that made him famous!

Chris - that was favorite Ronnie stuff - Saw him with the Faces here in LA
(early 70's) free champaine... fun show

also saw the Stones (with Mick Taylor) still one of the best concerts I've
ever seen, and I've seen Clapton, Knopfler, Hendrix, Page, Beck, Peter Green...

You saw Peter Green? With Fleetwod Mac? Do tell more! (though perhaps on a seperate OT thread!)

ronnie wood gives me wood and i'm straight as hell,

mlc, mick taylor plays the most beautiful leads i've ever heard, but the stones need rythm, stereorythm!

Well said, Maverick!

As a newcomer to this site I really don't understand the hostility I've seen shown to Ronnie by some, or, quite frankly, the reverence to Mick Taylor. MT was a Stone for a few years only. Ronnie has been there for 30. He, (Ronnie), is a great musician and all round loveable guy. He's contributed a lot over the years. Sure, MT was great too but he left over 30 years ago! The idea expressed by some that if Ronnie couldn't make the tour MT might jump in instead is laughable.

As for me I've NEVER seen the Stones live - despite them being my favourite band since I saw them on TOTP in 1969, when I was 10 years old. HOPE I can make it this time!

Mudbone -NO the Stones NEED a KICK-ASS Lead Guitar!!!

Rebel - since you never saw the Stones Live when Taylor was in the band,
(I did three times) don't think your opinion holds much weight,

put it this way - if one of your 1st cars was a: Ferrari (Taylor)
and then you got into a Ford Mustang (Wood) and started driving with someone
like "Albett" and he was popping off with;
" Isn't this car great! Doesn't it ride nice"!!!

you might, like me, say; well, I've been exposed to a Ferrari, and if I had my
choice, i'd take the Ferrari....

That's how i feel when I hear the current lineup doing Taylor era songs, I like
the "original".

Like to see how close the guys could come to re-producing that sound again, if CREAM can re-form, so can the "original" Stones, if Jagger/ Richards want to... MLC

MLC again knocking down other's opinions. I don't beleive for one minute MLC was at any of these shows he speaks of. All he says is that he went to all these great shows but offers no insight and throws the fact that he went to all these shows in anyone's face who has an opinion that is different from his rather than offering any reason other than making stupid Ferrari and Mustang comparisons. Give at least one knowledgeable explanation in one of your posts instead of calling people names or just saying he is no Mick Taylor. Do you realize how you sound to others.

And about Cream, I had two close friends go to the show and they said while it was good to see them play again the performance was uninspired and sounded like they were just trying to play their songs fast and get them over with, nothing like the Cream everyone knows.

To ChrisM,

Thanks for the reply. I wish it was so simple as to get to a ticket office! I tried last time, believe me, but was all sold out in about 30 minutes or something. (On the internet I mean.)

Well, I hope I'm a bit more clued up this time. Certainly this site should be a great help.

Believe me, I've got all the video's/DVDs whatever and I dream of seeing them.

Flash - Well, look who's calling the Kettle Black!!

Want me to provide "details" about the 2nd show at the LA Forum - 1969??
I can prove I was there, also in 1972 - had bad seats behind the band, had to
walk around the arena for most of the show to see the guys, again can provide
details as to would opened, who was on keyboards. Still have my $100 ticket
stub from the benefit concert in 1973, bought it for $25 the night of. Want
me to scan it & post it for you??

What insights do you want me to enlighten you on?? jagger's best stage presents
was in 1969, Taylor was best in 72, it took the guys until 1/2 the show in 73
to come up to par, 1st show they did in a while, they were vacationing when the
earthquake struck in S. America, jagger had just cut his hair short as he was
about to go down-under to go swimming, came out wearing a diamond teira in his
hair, want more - just ask - MLC

rebelrebel, I'm two years older than you, and I have seen the Stones in concert, but it was 24 years ago!

Do everything humanly possible to get to one of the 2005 shows.

MCDDTLC,

"Rebel - since you never saw the Stones Live when Taylor was in the band,

I understand what you're saying but my only point was that I think Ronnie is great member of the Stones and I don't understand the hostility...

Even if I never saw the Stones live I've seen all the video's etc as well as hearing all the CDs. I've already agreed that MT was great, I only said that they've been around 30 years since and are still great with Ronnie too. And anyway they do a lot of songs that are not from the Taylor era don't they?

Just to comment on the last two things I've watched - Gimme Shelter is amazing but so is Four Flicks. This is the greatest rock-n-roll band in the world. Always was, always will be.

mcl, ron wood on the 81 tour, now that's kick ass lead guitar!
way more rockn roll than mt, he was more lyrical..

or something...i dunno

who cares ? Theyre both something else in my opinion

Anyway, always fun to see someone so passionate about his lead guitar and i do share youre opinion, i think mt playing in the early seventies is out of this world, the most exciting tone i ever heard

Rebel & All - it's not that I dislike Ronnie, it's just that I "prefer" Taylor's
playing with the Stones on the old material. Like some of the newer stuff

Beast of Burden, Undercover, Almost hear You Cry, etc...

It's just that the Stones in the early 70's was my favorite alltime music, listen
to the boots from 1973, Sticky Fingers, Goats Head Soup.

Hear Taylor say he would love to play again with the guys (just one tour)
hoping against hope that maybe Jagger will forgive and give us something to
remember "musically" one last Time!!!!!!! MLC
