His best? I hope not! He played alright but he is capable of much better than that!

He's minimalistic nowadays, hardly plays any fast notes although he's capable of doing it.

Play that music , white boy ! - Chuck Berry 1986

I think the fears of a "Chuck Leavel and his Rolling Stones tour" have diminished greatly. - ROCK AND ROLL !

Yeah, it wasn't the best Ronnie at all.
The best Ronnie is one of my favorite guitarplayers of all time, and that wasn't what I saw at the press conference.

But he played more than one note and that's improvement.

I thought he played really well...and what was needed. In fact at some points in the past when Ron got into a flurry of fast picking, that is when he made me miss most the fluid vi,,,,OMG I did not almost go there did I? LMAO

Actually I was really pleased with Ronnie and it gave me hope for the future. Now if they only keep him turned up in the mix! The other thing I saw was Keith move over to Ronnie and "guitar dual" with him, all smiles, and I have not noticed that much lately. He seemed to more often move to Darryl in the past few years. I hope that interplay we saw is what we will see on the tour.

What (the way) Ronnie played fit perfectly with The Stones whole approach that we saw at the press conference. 'Stripped' in a word. Make every note count. I thought it was great.

I ain't stupid, I'm just guitarded.

Less is more on a solo if you know what you're doing......

Fast notes don't mean anything......

Yes Stikky - agree with that, Less is more -
a parade example of that is Ritchie "the Man in Black" Blackmore.
Saw him with Purple twive in the 80´s at their reunion concerts, in 85 & 87.
He had entered a complete different (maybe you could say, fetching comparisons from their genre, more Page-ish) play style with hitting the right & most suiting & enjoyable notes instead of rushing through the neck.

But this is ROCK 'N' ROLL!!!!!

Did I say fast notes is everything in a solo? No, I just commented his style. Even his trademark tremolo is absent nowadays. Keith's solo on AAA from LYL is perfect because of it's simplicity, but I really think Ron could speed it up some more.

Fast notes too can be very effective if you now what you are doing. Just listen to Sway with Carla Olsen and Mick Taylor.

we cant' expect Ronnie to play like Gilmour, I think he somehow fits the Stones perfectly with his usual degree of sloppiness
I mean, this is no King Crimson or Yes, who cares for perfection?

for me, there has always been ONE guitar player in the Rolling Stones and his name is Keith Richards: no matter how fine Taylor or Woody could be, it's Keith who makes the engine run.
If Keith can play, then everything will fall into its right place.

Oh c'mon, Ronnie hardly plays at all. He does the BS-trademark bending over and over. Listen to the 81-82 tours and compare.

You might be a nice person in real life, OpenG, but you reached a level now where you annoy me that much that I'd really like to hunt you down sometimes. With Ronnie's guitar!

We are all attacking you, OG.
Plese try a smoother approach, and ask yourself: is this thoroughly gone thru... Am I right... Or, even better: Have I something positive to say... You cant always get what you want - sorry, I meant you cant always use this board as a trsh can, the litter content will boomerang back to you, mate.

Ah well, if ya aint got it ya can't give it!!

Try Baboon Bro approach - always interesting, varied opinion, courteous to other and sometimes hopeless at typing...what more can you possibly want?

Oh sorry, Ronnie played really well and I hope he doesnt get any better! I think they could get better if they tour without Chuck and the choir cause that would force them (Ron).
