"Midnight Rambler" Brussels 73 #1
Posted by: HEILOOBAAS ()

What is it that Mick says right before the final tempo change? "Well I'm sure hot about soap"?

For years I've been unable to understand it. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
H. B.

...hot about dope? Has it really been bugging you for years? Now it's bugging me, guess I'll have to dig it up and take a listen.

Yes it has. & it's only because I am about to begin house chores and MR is blasting in the background that I finally realized somebody on this board must know!

OK, into the bedroom to put away the Christmas dekkies!!!

Maybe I'm old school - GYYYO version rules. No other can compare.

Err.... Chris yes you're old! grinning smiley

Seriously 69/70 was the blueprint for 72/73 imo. Had there been a live album from the MT era, GYYO would be considered today as a 1960's equivalent of LYL.

Guitar in GYYYO flows within the song itself. IMO- Brussels version considers MT out of bounds of the song's intent. On this current tour, MR is closer to the best version.

The Brussels performance is an impressive, frenetic piece of music making. It smacks you in the face like an action movie. It has excitement without the pleasure. It wows and leaves me cold. The Ya-Ya's performance is stealthy and restrained. It's subtler in its rhythms, emphasis and variations. It allows the audience to come to the song. In a word it is simply sexier.

Always thought it was "oh my shiver to my soul". One of those Jaggerisms; the "shiver to my soul" sounds clear.

Good one. To me it sounds like "...out of my soul," but I think you got the rest of it.

Again, I question the logic of fellow members of this board. Midnight Rambler . on GYYO is a step or two above the Brussel session.

Gimme Shelter (movie) struck all Stones fans. At the time I was only 13 or 14. Movie was distributed world wide. Sitting alone in a vacant theater watching the Stones was a defining moment. I was always a fan but this event took it to another level.

That's a great way of stating the two differences.

Im with ya Chis.
Think ya yas version is better because it has more balls!
Whereas brussels #1 is more slick and certainly goes to magical heights with amazing work from each member, ya yas is more original with more grunt.
The crowd must have been in awe of the belt whipping on the 69 tour...think the guitar interplay on ya yas is amazing as well.
I love the sound of thos ampegs also...

It's apples and oranges.

Both versions are amazing, although I prefer the Brussels version because Taylor's role is more prominent. The interaction - Keith and Taylor in particular- is more about the music , freestyle, instead of 'just playing a song'.

I've listened to it a few times, and I'm quite sure its, "I'm sure hangin' 'bout snow".

A ski enthusiast maybe?

The Real Stones' fans emerge. I am sick and tired of the "Brussels" talk. Isn't Get Your Ya's Ya's Out really the most poingent live album ever recorded?

Ok- I question this forum. Which is more important and sounds better?
