O.T. Discovering a new artist: Jake Bugg
Posted by: DaveG ()
Date: December 26, 2013 22:21

I was watching the Glastonbury 2013 show on Palladia the other day when I saw a young artist named Jake Bugg playing a song called Lightning Bolt. I was very impressed with his talent and the excitement he generates. I don't know how I would define his sound, kind of like a combination of blues, rock-a-billy, not sure. But, he is only 19 years and seems talented beyond his years. (of course, I am only basing this on 2 songs performed live). Anyone else heard of him? If not, take a look at the Glastonbury performance of Lightning Bolt. WOuld love to hear the thoughts of others here.

Lightning Bolt is a top tune.

Never heard of him until now. The single is nice, but after checking the other videos on youtube, I'm definitely not impressed.

Wasn't he supposed to open Hyde Park but got sick? I could be thinking of someone else.

He's great, but especially on a Stones site does anyone else think he looks exactly like a young Keith?!

Definitely an uncanny resemblance to Keith in that photo!

I noticed he was scheduled to play in Seattle on January 20, but the show was cancelled. I wonder why . . .

Can't remember who it was that was ill, but it wasn't Jake Bugg - here he is at Hyde Park on the 13th, and even with the constant chitter chatter chitter chatter I enjoy this. Shangri La sounds like a harder, faster, more electric album than his first, and I hope he isn't going to abandon the acoustic stuff which I enjoy. No, his voice isn't that wonderful, a bit nasal at times - he certainly wouldn't win a Super Pop Idol Star Factor, but who cares?

It's a tough gig opening for the Stones.

Kinda think he looks like a young Mick Taylor to me. I thought that when I first saw him on tv performing at Glastonbury this summer. I read good reviews about him in People and Rolling Stone magazines. Appears to be a very talented guy.

Tom Odell got sick.
We were treated with an extra concert of the legendary Hudson Taylor.

Jake Bugg will go down in the books as a one hit wonder.
He just hasn't got the voice and delivery to keep it interesting.

The annoying thing in this video, are the clowns, who must talk while he is performing. Those kind of people, p*** me really off!!!

Anyone championing ‘Bugg’ as a songwriter, should hold back and re-read the liner notes. He ‘co-writes’ his music with a string of songwriters-for-hire; guys responsible for the hits of, amongst others, Kylie Minogue, Victoria Beckham (!!), Olly Murs, Liberty X and Will Young. For someone cited as being a kind-of antidote to the X-Factors, etc, it’s interesting he feels – or has to, perhaps – collaborate with writers whom would usually be penning tunes for, err, X-Factor and Pop Idol winners.

The video is boring as hell, I can't even watch it till the end. People were in a festival, hanging out in the sun with friends, what should they do with that depressive song? Admire silently in awe the rising star?

If people are talking, it means they have no interest in what's going on on stage. Couldn't blame them, in this case.
