Seriously, multiple press outlets have reported that, including Billbord to my knowledge. I do agree that its unlikely the live set will be televised, but its still a possibility.

oh right, so theyre going to mime in front of millions around the world?
It's not about lip-synching, the Stones would never stoop so low. Maybe it will be piped in on speakers... as an introduction... not actually played live... just some samples?
seriously, multiple reports say they will be playing 3 tracks live. whether it will be televised is a different issue. my prayer is that they are "that" confident in the new material that they would play 3 tunes for us and turn everyone back on.
It would be fairly strange for the Stones to step on stage without any rehearsels. They rehearsed for 5 weeks for the Licks tour, and the opening club gig was horrible. I really doubt Jagger will perform with an unrehearsed band in front of the international press.

I would be very surprised if the songs they perform live are new ones.
They'll probably play familiar songs that they could (and have) perform in their sleep
The emphasis is on the tour at this point, not the new record
I really hope they perform live, but i think if they do, it would be unwise to perform three 'classics', as this would be saying "Here's our new tour details, here's our new album title to support the tour and now we're gonna play JJF, Start me up and HTW, cos our new album is a bit average and we dont think you'll like it??!!
I would be suprised if they perform live, because this would be unusual for them given previous form. However, maybe its a change that they want. If they do play, i can see it being two up tempo songs from the new album followed by a warhorse that everyone knows.
Or perhaps they'll premiere three new songs played over the PA. Hope not though...

On Shidobee Doug said Darryl will be at the press conference! Darryl = live songs!
P.S. I'm sure they could've spent just one week rehearsing two new songs and have a few run throughs of a classic, (without too many people knowing about it)if that is what they intend to play. I mean, if they are in the process of finishing the album, or have finished it already, then these new songs would be pretty fresh in their heads, i.e. no need to spend weeks on rehearsing it!

If Darryl is there and Chuck isn't (which I doubt) there is hope we will see some stripped down rock'n roll, something we will never hear again on the forthcoming tour - at least not in this stripped down form. Let's hope for the best. If they do three numbers my guess is something familiar like SMU, then a new number and another rocker like IORR.

maybe Darryl's going to be their chauffeur, this time?
>Mathijs, Exactly how do you know they didnt rehearse?
Well, if they did, we would have known about it. The did record tracks, but this a complete different matter than playing these songs live, you need to rehearse in order to be able to play the final product. I might be very wrong, but I don't see the Stones play live with the entire international press collected.
>the Palais Royale gig was horrible???
Absolutely. In fact, to this day I wonder how a band that has been playing for 40 years can be so nervous and perform so badly. There isn't one song that is performed well. Especially keith is unbelievably bad. He had rehearsed for 5 straight weeks, and he didn't seem to remember one song at all. The Palais must be one of the worst Stones gigs ever.
In my ears it doesnt sound like the worse; much stuff from the 80´s sound 'axe-ish' and led-footed compared to palais Royal. But it sure aint their best...
'Torn and frayed' at that show was particularly horrible. A great song that I'd wanted so much to hear live as its a personal favourite and that performance was unlistenable.
However, it WAS a rehearsal so some leeway allowed I guess
Not a patch on the Double Door warm-up show from '97, though!

Well, we all know: With Keith its no matter of how much rehearsals there have been, its just his dayform that matters. He can blow up the Brown Sugar anytime even after five weeks rehearsals or 70 played Licks shows. Sometimes he nails it, sometimes not.
I sometimes wonder how he manages to nail it when he really should. Monkey Man at the HBO show (Live Licks Disc 2) is a perfect example. Listen to Monkey Man from concerts before and after the HBO show - most of the time it seems like he had forgotten the riff, but at the HBO show he just did it...
IF they really play live, which I also doubt but wish, I think they meet today at the venue, have a soundcheck AND a rehearsal. Also maybe tomorrow before the pressconference. Its just three songs that they have played before!!!

I agree, and Darryl being there kind of confirms that there will be a small live show. I wonder how the press will react?

...I´m listening to it right now: It sounds like Keefster & Charlie is way off, at some other continent. Mick gives up after the midst of the song. Guess Ron is the only one awake; but he doesnt find anyone inside.
Otherwise I dont hear much shite at Stones boots, the few I heard sofar, as a new fan... Most of the stuff we gets via our Western European friend is genuine quality; I heard All About You (one of my absolute favorites) at CTC 1997; and it sounds really messy.
I see Richards as the musical leader (maybe balanced by the bearded man on tours; in order to avoid that Keeftser not will get pissed at Mick, which - as I saw on the four dvds from the last tour - always is close to the surface); he has always been running the pace. Maybe he finds himself excluded from that position & just crawls inside himself at times... ? So much for the Corn flakes psychological analysis, right?
