Re: Preparing for the flames: I think Beggar’s is overrated.

Six things:
(i) I wish I´d never jumped into this thread at all.
I love BB, it´d probably be placed among my 20-25 favorite albums all
on my all-time list all artists & groups included.
And its sits easy down on my top 10 among Stones albums, but not no 1
(still, most of posters here within this very thread
dont either rank it 1st).
(ii) Hope there are spare room for new fans here. If you read (i) and think that fact over,
that a year ago I hadnt heard more than 2-3 albums by the Stones,
its not bad for an album to place itself among the top 10.
(iii) Time to admit: I havent heard the complete albums of Dirty Works or Emotional Rescue either.
There are other ways of getting knowledge. For several hours I´ve talked to the Swedish die-hard
fan since 1964, Ove Tingvall on the phone;
I´ve read tons & tons of books & articles in order to make five hours of radio shows
with the Story of the Stones - and I´ve picked up sh*it loads of Stones´ knowledge at this very site.
I have talked several times
(and emailed even more) with former tour manager
(during 1965-71, thus during Altamont - he made the contract on the Gimmie Shelter-movie)
Ron Schneider & I have met Andrew Loog Oldham.
I have got much good info by old hard core fans from all over,
and I´ve got in touch with much folks here & on some of the other boards.
I think I have as much right to spread the TRUE GOSPEL
of the Rolling Stones here as anyone else. Or?
But:
(iv) There are worse cases than myself:
I believe some of the weekend posters here havent heard much more than "Satisfaction", "Angie" & maybe one or two tunes more.
Many of these w a n k e r s that post about Dylan for example.
...In fact I wondered the their day how we could get rid of all this hatered- and/or Dylan-posters (a test for real heavy fans?).
(v) Yes, people can have difficulties with records
if the sound doesnt fit to their taste.
I love the Stu-coloured feeling on Aftermath.
I love much on the BB as well; for example No Expectations;
Sympathy... is almost unnecessary to mention that its astonishing.
SCB is one of the heaviest songs thru the whole career
sofar by the Stones. I even love Dear Doctor... etc etc...
But I´m sensitive towards acoustics, moods, atmosphere & production...
Maybe because I´ve heard too much.
I was in the music business already in late 70´s,
arranged punk concerts & blues concerts during period circa 1979-1984,
attended all Roskilde Festival except one between 1982 and 1989;
I´ve seen Purple twice, Lizzy, U2 twice, Jethro Tull, Joe Cocker,
Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Elton John (in 1970),
Mike Oldfield, all the Swedish punk and "progg" rock classics,
many Danish band, Hungarian, Midnight Oil, Nico,
Nick Cave etc etc etc etc etc. I´ve written reviews &
other stuff on rock music. I´ve made radio shows on T
hin Lizzy, Gasolin´, CCR, Doors, and the Stones.
I´ve known so many professional musicians you blush
if I´d start a namedropping.
(vi) I´,m a huge Pink Floyd fan, too: But I do not like The Wall;
and I find the drug-romantics around Syd Barret disgusting.
I love Deep Purple, but I find Ritchie Blackmore very odd
(in a bed sense) & not particularly interesting or
inventive since 1971.
...But the Stones are among one of the three most interesting groups
in the world in their age (the others are English too:
Kinks & Who, as I got it). Of course RS are THE hottest.
...Conclusion: You d o n t have to think like everybody else.
You may think for yourself. I happen to have GHS as my favorite album;
and I even found out it doesnt make me too strange at this board.
So CD: Cool down, huh?
