"Come on Baboon! You're the 'commander' of the history revisionist troopers!"
(RankO.)... Yeah, yeah, I not what you´re after.

It bothers me that Miller produced all these albums. But on the other hand you could state (e.g.): "the S t o n e s made Dirty Works, therefore its good".

TO get this straight: I love Aftermath, I love BTB, I love BB, I love SF, I adore Exile, and I worship GHS. I prefer the latter and the formest. I´m sure I would love/worship Ya-Ya´s, but I still havent heard it (Can someone burn it for me? I´ll reward you with something we figure out, maybe some forgotten Muddy-album or slt)... Still I´m influenced by what Ove Tingvall said on 1967´s gig in Sacndinavia: It sounded crap, they were bad, real bad. What I hear from 1969 tour at Gimme Shelter is not as fantastic as everybody say... But maybe its the bad reflection of the sound which puzzles my ears... After many sleepless night I have a little better bootleg collection (6-7 instesd of none). I have a "Some Like It Hot" from Paris 23rd of September 1970.

Maybe one have to distinct things from each other; I think what the Stones had in 1971-72 was a working model, a well functioning (amongst & in spite of all bohemian drug habits, but based upon the Glimmer Twins excellent geniuses). Miller is no half-god; I´m sure he himself would rank his works in different ways. I reckon he´s gonns get only a fair share of the honour behind GHS.

You should get Ya-Ya's and listening to it on headphones, it's simply amazing rock 'n' roll. The guitar work of Keith and MT is something to behold. It's produced by The Stones and Glyn Johns.

Do you know odd-beat?

I ain't stupid, I'm just guitarded.

Elmo, the comment was not directed at you. I should have made that more clear in my post, lol And no I was not listening to the blues in 1960! But I was hearing (via my parents), Fats Domino, Ernest Tubb and plenty of Brenda Lee!

I ain't stupid, I'm just guitarded.

Yeah, definitely ought to consider yourself flamed...how does one overrate an album like Beggar's??? Great blues tunes, the rockin' Street Fighting, the beauty of Satl of the Earth, and of course SYMPATHY! This album doesn'trate as one of their top 5???? Come on!

No, I am rather pleasantly surprised, all in all, at the low flame rate!... Just slightly, comfortably toasty...

Baboon Bro and I are probably brothers after all, indeed: I have also never heard the complete Ya-Yas' either!!! (now, here they comes...)

I can not believe, NOT BELIEVE!!!! that there are people posting here, spreading Stones wisdom around like it's gospel that haven't bothered to listen to Yaya's. I don't mena this as criticism, it just boggles the mind, man.

I love the songs on BB, I'm just not a big fan of the production or the sound of that album. There are superior versions of those songs on live albums or boots. I do love the sound of Stray Cat Blues......but I would have preferred a Sticky Fingers sound on BB. I know the roots lovers will scream.....but I'll take the crunch of Brown Sugar's guitars every time.

Maybe Sonny would do it for free, since he's such a big Stones fan, lol And, what's with this knocking the 'procuction' on Beggars? I mean these are the first recordings on which they had a 'real' producer. The production as far as I can tell is flawless! geez. And since when does the 'sound' (if that were in fact a problem here) keep one from liking a really great song? Good question, hmmmmmmm. Maybe it's a cover for not really liking the country songs. That's just a hunch.

I ain't stupid, I'm just guitarded.

Six things:

(i) I wish I´d never jumped into this thread at all.
I love BB, it´d probably be placed among my 20-25 favorite albums all
on my all-time list all artists & groups included.
And its sits easy down on my top 10 among Stones albums, but not no 1
(still, most of posters here within this very thread
dont either rank it 1st).

(ii) Hope there are spare room for new fans here. If you read (i) and think that fact over,
that a year ago I hadnt heard more than 2-3 albums by the Stones,
its not bad for an album to place itself among the top 10.

(iii) Time to admit: I havent heard the complete albums of Dirty Works or Emotional Rescue either.
There are other ways of getting knowledge. For several hours I´ve talked to the Swedish die-hard
fan since 1964, Ove Tingvall on the phone;
I´ve read tons & tons of books & articles in order to make five hours of radio shows
with the Story of the Stones - and I´ve picked up sh*it loads of Stones´ knowledge at this very site.
I have talked several times
(and emailed even more) with former tour manager
(during 1965-71, thus during Altamont - he made the contract on the Gimmie Shelter-movie)
Ron Schneider & I have met Andrew Loog Oldham.
I have got much good info by old hard core fans from all over,
and I´ve got in touch with much folks here & on some of the other boards.
I think I have as much right to spread the TRUE GOSPEL
of the Rolling Stones here as anyone else. Or?

But:

(iv) There are worse cases than myself:
I believe some of the weekend posters here havent heard much more than "Satisfaction", "Angie" & maybe one or two tunes more.
Many of these w a n k e r s that post about Dylan for example.
...In fact I wondered the their day how we could get rid of all this hatered- and/or Dylan-posters (a test for real heavy fans?).

(v) Yes, people can have difficulties with records
if the sound doesnt fit to their taste.
I love the Stu-coloured feeling on Aftermath.
I love much on the BB as well; for example No Expectations;
Sympathy... is almost unnecessary to mention that its astonishing.
SCB is one of the heaviest songs thru the whole career
sofar by the Stones. I even love Dear Doctor... etc etc...
But I´m sensitive towards acoustics, moods, atmosphere & production...
Maybe because I´ve heard too much.
I was in the music business already in late 70´s,
arranged punk concerts & blues concerts during period circa 1979-1984,
attended all Roskilde Festival except one between 1982 and 1989;
I´ve seen Purple twice, Lizzy, U2 twice, Jethro Tull, Joe Cocker,
Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Elton John (in 1970),
Mike Oldfield, all the Swedish punk and "progg" rock classics,
many Danish band, Hungarian, Midnight Oil, Nico,
Nick Cave etc etc etc etc etc. I´ve written reviews &
other stuff on rock music. I´ve made radio shows on T
hin Lizzy, Gasolin´, CCR, Doors, and the Stones.
I´ve known so many professional musicians you blush
if I´d start a namedropping.

(vi) I´,m a huge Pink Floyd fan, too: But I do not like The Wall;
and I find the drug-romantics around Syd Barret disgusting.
I love Deep Purple, but I find Ritchie Blackmore very odd
(in a bed sense) & not particularly interesting or
inventive since 1971.
...But the Stones are among one of the three most interesting groups
in the world in their age (the others are English too:
Kinks & Who, as I got it). Of course RS are THE hottest.
...Conclusion: You d o n t have to think like everybody else.
You may think for yourself. I happen to have GHS as my favorite album;
and I even found out it doesnt make me too strange at this board.

So CD: Cool down, huh?

ChelseaDrugstore, thanks for not criticizing, but I am not "spreading wisdom" re. the Stones, here nor anywhere else. I am just making comments, positive and negative, about those aspects of their work I am familiar enough with.

I personally felt not so great about not having fully discovered B'sB before just recently. However, I miss not having had yet a decently affordable opportunity to discover Ya-Yas (in reasonably good listening conditions), but I am not ready to jump out a window over it...
Because I am often disappointed by hearing audio live (and not live + visual) versions of my favorite musical groups/artists' recorded material (I have this thing about studio recordings). Plus I do have some other musical interests to nurture vs. limited time and means.

I am just a fan that'll buy his concert ticket (and occasional DVD). Not a worshipper.

I'll join the club - I don't even have Dirty Works (nor Undercover) on CD.
I like some tracks on ER, though...
