Rare 1970 tour footage
Posted by: Mack Jigger ()

These guys at www.huntleyarchives.com seem to have over more than two hours of pro shot 1970 Stones footage!

Would love to see it all!

Love that Jagger strutting action. He did a bit more on the 72 US tour and then that was it. End of the strut.

Non of use can unfortunately smiling smiley

But once again proof there's so much footage left in the vaults of the Stones. A full live show on DVD of the 1970 tour would be amazing. But wishful thinking I'm afraid. An official release of the Paris 1970 soundboard will do!

I love how people make unauthorized recordings, which are technically violations of copyright and other laws, then have the balls to put the logo of the bootleg company on the video so no one can actually enjoy it. Hypocrites

I'm not totally sure, but I believe Huntley Archives have simply bought the rights to this footage. They own it and have the right to put their logo on copies which people do not pay for. It's not a bootleg company, but a legit film archive (I think). But I wish someone would get a clean copy of all the '70 footage they have and dub the Paris soundboard onto it. Bootleg the hell out of it. Would be great.

In the clips, Richards seems to be getting some mileage on the LP with Bigsby he sold to Taylor. With the capo on the fourth fret, it doesn't seem like he's playing HTW.

Are these from the known Berlin, Vienna and Essen clips?
If not, can anyone tell whether these are excerpts filmed by a
TV crew, or do the running times make this unlikely?

What do the experts here rate the 1970 Euro tour for the Stones? Any comparison to the out-of-this-world 1969 American tour?

Great Mack Jigger. Thank You!

We're not worthy for 2 hours of footage!

Judging by the bootlegs, the 1970 tour held a very high and even standard, easily on par with the '69 tour. Perhaps it lacked some of the surprise, spontaneity, "danger", and "urgency" of its American predecessor. Certainly it doesn't have the same historical importance. Also, the '70 tour produced fewer and worse quality bootlegs compared to '69. The ones from Essen and Paris are probably the best ones.

I'm Not an expert, but this Tour is IMO even better than the 69-Tour ... It has the Same Slow Groove, like a heartbeat, Great guitars and a superior setlist (Dead flowers, Brown Sugar with Horns and Not to forget the rocking Roll over Beethoven - OK, I Miss UMT). I always wondered why they skipped gimme shelter after the First Gig .... The experts Might give me an answer to that?

A soundboard release would be just brillant ... Sticky Fingers was Recorded in 1970, at least Important Parts, how about a 1970-gig on the Deluxe Edition we will get this Winter (I now we will most likely get the Marquee-Show, but who knows ...)?

Agreed. Historically, I guess the '71 tour has the most relevance in a deluxe Sticky Fingers release, but the '70 tour easily deserves an archive release. The songs you mentioned, the added horns (Bobby Keys' live debut with the group) plus fantastic performances of Stray Cat Blues and Sympathy for the Devil make the '70 tour stand out for me. Why not put it on a deluxe Let It Bleed.

It looks like you can purchase this from their archives at least there is a link for "ordering master tapes".
Maybe I should give it a shot huh?

Best Stones leg footage ever. Even better than '72 leg footage.

I thought in 1969 KR used it only for HTW.
In 1970, he finds yet another song for it.
So why did he sell it to Taylor in 1967?
Or was the 1967 sale and this SFM guitar different guitars?

Sorry for reactivate this topic, but I didn't want to start a new thread about the same subject.

Here's some nice 1970 footage from the Paris' Palais des Sports concert:

And there's a lot of more interesting videos on this website.

Also agonizingly (especially as Stu was in it) without sound. But great to watch.

Damn someone beat me to it; but it is SFM IMO too.
Man I would die for a show of '70 done up with all the bells and whistles.
