I'm no one to judge since for the first hundred times I heard Gimme I thought he was saying..."just a shout away."
But I really thought it was 1-2...but when I re-listened I could definitely hear "watch it" or "what you" or "watch you."
I dunno - time for another daiquiri to ponder more heavy thoughts.
You got it honey lamb!Quote

That's not what he says on the record, though.

He says "Watch it" on the studio version.

I'm from southern England originally, but not actually London (not far from Dartford, actually!), so I don't know if that counts. I'm down with "world wide confusion," actually.

If he is saying "one two" it is very odd that he would say that. You'd think that he would do that to count the main riff in but he says it too fast for some reason. Sounds like it's in double time. Why would he count it as 1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2 etc... rather than 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and which is the way the song is counted. The song is in 4/4 time. One wouldn't normally count it in double time. It's not a 2/4 song. Also, if you count 1234 in double time along with the music, it sounds like the 1 and 2 that Mick says doesn't match up with the count. Having to squeeze in the 3 and 4 after his 1, 2 doesn't quite sound right. It's a very strange placement of a "one two".

Yes watch it. One two makes no sense.

NOOOOOO!! And the "one two" isn't a count-in, it's just an intro to the song, like "here we go."

Yes, Big Al, I grew up in Kent.

On a related note, it took years before I realized they were saying, "Hey, Hey, You, You" on Get Off My Cloud. I had always thought it was just four random yelping noises.
"I say, 'Hey, Who, Ha, He, Get Off Of My Cloud!'"
I think I like it better that way.

It is interesting...is the split down to American and English accents or is just a world wide confusion? I'm English but from Northern England so even to me Jagger's 'mockney' infused with whatever US accent he is trying can be confusing...anyone here from London Town who could give there opinion, sorry if you already have.

That's my interpretation. Also, Aquamarine is british, so that gives her some authority in judging this, regardless of what makes sense or not.
