Guitar Playing on Townes' Dead Flowers

Hello all,
As many of you know, Townes VanZant did a cool live version of Dead Flowers that was featured on the Big Lebowski movie soundtrack. It is my favorite cover of the song. Way better than those lame country versions that are afraid to sing the smack lines. (Get it! Smack lines!)
I am curious about the guitar tunings on this one. As I try to play the finger picked parts under the normal rhythm, it sounds to me that the guitar is not in standard tuning.
Can someone please shed some light on this?

Howdy Cafaro. As I recall, there are no alternate tunings in this version but the key was changed from D to C so you might try it either in the 1st position or with a capo on the 3rd fret...
