Best Jumpin Jack Flash ever?

I'd say studio version and GYYYO-version (not the 'Gimme Shelter'-version). I also like the Rock n Roll circus version even though the riff is all wrong.

I like the nasty messy Hyde Park version best after the studio version.

I like the version with all the yelping at the beginning. Kinda reminds me of the "Hey, Hey, You, You" in GOMC.

Gimme Shelter version, Ya Yas version. Nothing comes close to the power of the 1969 performances.

Wow. I've never seen this one! Where is this from? Maybe the same taping that produced the "JJF with makeup" video? I seem to remember reading that they did a couple of different takes on that day.

The Flaming Groovies must have heard that take , back in the days!
Great version of my favorite rolling stones' song.
Rock and roll,

The studio version is wonderful

Best live recording I know is the "Gimme Shelter movie" version, because there is NO overdubs, the band is powerful, the sound and mixing are just perfect.

Ya-Ya version is OK, it sounds good, but ... I don't like overdubs on live recordings.

You're gonna get Mathijs riled up with overdub talk like that...

In my opinion, this song sounds best when played at a fast tempo. I personally like the version from 1973 in Australia and Brussels. The version from the '78 tour is good as well, although it ends like a train wreck to some extent. Still, awesome power to it.

The beauty of this track is that there are so many great versions, those mentioned from '69 as well as the studio and even the '81 version. The song faded from my perference when they decided to slow down the tempo in '97. It was a good opener for No Security and when I saw them in Baltimore in '06.

Well, great opinions by all on here. My preference comes from '73 when they really liked playing the song and it was still somewhat fresh and new.

The most grooving version is this one (who cares about the 'off tune' Taylor-guitar except mr. Ears himself aka Mathijs):

1978 - Live in Texas, Will Rogers auditorium.

That's the one I really like: Charlie is like Kali drumming.

Gimme Shelter version (Welcome to the Breakfast Show...)

Close second would be the Standard tuning version on "Rock 'n' Roll Circus". There's something about the riff played that way that adds a little darkness to it, a bit like Gimme Shelter or Midnight Rambler, but less epic.

When I heard that version on tv I thought it sucked, but when later hearing the itunes version I thought it sounded pretty good. Still, far from the best version...

Gimme Shelter version - because he didn't sing it like it is on GYYYO live. At least the Gimme Shelter version is accurate.

The last thing Jumpin' Jack Flash needs is lots of guitar widdling. The more Taylor plays the less "real thing" it becomes. >grinning smiley<

Seriously, has anyone here ever heard the 1968 NME performance? That's as close to the bone as you could get to the time of the song's release.
