Truly my favourite vocalist of all time. I have loved the guy's voice for years. He could whisper, scream, holler, croon, growl, and belt all in the same tune.

I had the experience of a life time by finally seeing him last summer. Around the 3:20 mark he starts talking to a "white boy" that was me. Surreal surreal moment.

Oh man-I'm going to see Buddy Guy next month and he was scheduled to support, but because of ill health he was replaced and I was disappointed. Didn't know he was this sick. So sorry I'll never get to hear him now. sad smiley

Used to see him all the time at the House of Blues in LA. One of the giants.

I believe one of Bobby Bland's songs was part of the Little Boy BLue and The Blue Boys recordings.
'I Don't Want No Woman'
Was it part of the early Stones playlist?

RIP Bobby.

Very sad news. His albums Dreamer and His California Album are favourites round at Dagger Towers. RIP Bobby.

Here's one of his classics.

I love his country soul album, Get On Down.

He does a brilliant version of Dan Penn's I Hate You.

Another great, the Nat King Cole of the blues, has passed away.

Oh no, terribly sad news.

Truely one of main biggest favourites ever. A great man, wonderful voice and a unique style of its own - a step from the blues to rhythm'n'blues/soul direction.

This is one of the strongest - not only inspiring some Dartford lads to name their group after it, but damn, what a raw passion, especially "you used to call me bobbeee... little boy blue...oh-be be white...[that's the way I always interpreted itwinking smiley]" Strong stuff!

RIP Bobby "Blue" Bland

P.S. Let's see if that other "Little Boy Blue" from Dartford remembers him tonight.

I do prefer his MCA recordings to the Malaco stuff.

Just discovered this really well written tribute from The Atlantic. It has some interesting history and some great videos to go along with it.

Here's the headline:

Bobby Bland Was 'Two Steps From the Blues'—and Ahead of Everyone Else

The extraordinary songs of the singer who died Sunday at age 83 offer reminders of how complex the blues can be, and how shockingly new it once was.

RIP Bobby. Saw him a couple of times, once in a small club; a real gentleman and artist.
