In the german Edition of the 'Rolling Stone' there was already in August 2005 a Top-100-List by Wolfgang Doebeling.

Extensive knowledge of German also required. It's no fun to just read the titles, so a new version for English readers is definitely warranted.

Fortunately the Stones-songs are not named in german winking smiley

The texts below the titles are more or less comments to the songs and their history, no justification for the ranking. For those who are nevertheless interested in the texts, the Google translator may help.

It was only intended as a comparison to the Special Collector's Edition. I could imagine that there are differences in the ranking .....

I've found a comment about the list above in this old IORR-Thread [www.iorr.org]:

It is not just a plain list in the German 'Rolling Stone'. The author has a description or some writing about every song (16 pages total). Wolfgang Doebeling is a music journalist and Stones fan and has been writing about our most favorite band for a few decades. It is of course a personal list, nothing wrong with that.

Okay, thanks! It's always fun to read the comments under the titles as well.

Unfortunately, the article in the german Edition of the 'Rolling Stone' consists of scanned images - with copyable text would be a translation hardly a problem .....

Yes, this is the little darling. Neither Out Of Control or Saint Of Me made the top 100! Ridiculous! When I saw that I shredded the entire magazine!

A top 100 list is too much. To choose a top ten list would be nice. Original Stones songs, no covers please.

Interesting how little Goat's Head Soup got on the top 100...Angie and Star Star, that's it? Start Star doesn't even deserve to be on there.

Dirty Work shut out obviously. Voodoo Lounge too. How Can I Stop the only Bridges song, that I thought a bit surprising.

Rough Justice made it so ABB wasn't a shut out...there are better songs though on ABB so I wonder about how well the editors even know that album.

Emotional Rescue and Undercover did surprisingly well I thought. Tattoo You and Some Girls got more than their fair share, along with the big four.
