Surprised not to see Albert Lee. (and other country-pickers for that matter.)

They didn't play on any famous enough songs...or on songs appreciated by anybody likely to vote in any of these silly surveys.
[unless anonymously...but that's another story]

"Subway Train"-New York Dolls (Johnny Thunders)
"EMI"-Sex Pistols (Steve Jones)

The two greatest guitar-breaks in the history of recorded rock 'n roll.

This one, 20. November Rain - Slash (Guns N Roses), has GOT to be a joke. What's up with all the Zep? Haven't people heard enough of Zeppelin?

No Billy Duffy (The Cult)? His solo on Peace Dog is outstanding!

INteresting. Not all of those songs actually have a solo

This kind of lists are always a disapointment, I don't believe in them.

Stairway to heaven with the best solo ever?

C'mon, who said that? great song, great riff, great lyrics nut standard solo, very good, but standard...

And Tunnel of Love by Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler?

I've have liked that one more than Sultans of Swing... And it's never in any list. tongue sticking out smiley

I guess it's a matter of taste anyway but I also have the feeling they choose the artists' best known songs instead of the actual solos.

Besides Knopflers 3-4 "common sense-wise-best" his
solo efforts on Phil Lynott's studio recordings of
"King's Call" and "Ode To Liberty" are astonishing &
ought to be on any top-100-list.

Problem is we need a top 5,000-list in order to tuck it all in.

Well, I suppose LA Forum inadvertently nominated Albert Lee. LA mentions Claptons Cocaine. If he was referring to the version on "Just One Night" then it is Albert playing the 2nd solo in that song.

IMO it's hard to argue against the live version of Crossroads from Wheels of Fire on any list of greatest live solo's. I think that is one that always gets discussed with this type of list.

Stairway. A rip off of...what was that, there was some thing on here a while ago about that. They ripped off somebody from 1968 I think, it was eerily similar. Fu*ck those guys, ripping off Willie left and right like that and not paying until they got sued. Shit band.

Every band rips people off to some degree but if half the stuff you hear about LZ is true they were to rock and roll what the Pats are to football.

I have always thought JP was an overrated guitarist. Good songwriter but not my cup of tea. I can't see why the solo of Stairway to Heaven would be number one on a greatest guitar solo list.

Simply...it's the best.

Page's greatest skill may have been as a producer. The way he layered all those guitars is mighty impressive. One of the reasons people still hold Zeppelin in such high regard is because their records sound so much better than their contemporaries, thanks largely to Page's production.
