I met Bill at a book signing in 2001. He even signed my copy of 'Blues Odyssea" (sp?) "Love, Bill" which I thought was rather sweet. We had a split-second conversation about the Crawdaddy but it didn't go very far, as there were plenty other people waiting in line to get stuff signed.

I've been AROUND Bobby Keys a bunch of times. I opened for a show where he was sitting in with Todd Snider. He was off behind the stage smoking a joint and I just left him alone. Sometimes it's nicer feeling in Nashville to leave the stars be and just bask in the fact that you're there and he's just right over there, being a regular human being and everything.

Yes, the all the core members around 1978 or something like that. Then again in 1981, 1989 and 1999. Interacted with Keith for a couple of weeks in my hometown back in 1986. We did a show in Amsterdam with Bill, his band with Mick Taylor guesting in 2007 or 2008. There have been chance meetings of various band members sprinkled in over the years. Overall, everyone was cool. I have to admit watching Tayor ripping it up in Amsterdam was incredible.

CBII and your Dad must have some great memorys going back to the '50's and'60's.
Probably too young yourself to remember too much, but the film clips are out there.

I have memorys as well of Chucks' great songs from then and before in the '50's even, and his great charisma on all the film clips back then.
The Golden age of Rock 'n Roll and the Blues music revival years. winking smiley

In 1997 Mick Taylor was playing with his band at the House of Blues in Chicago. I have a guitar signed by MJ, KR, RW, BW, & CW and really wanted to add MT to the mix. So I went to his web site and e-mailed his manager (& drummer), Jeff Allen, to see if there was any way he could arrange a meeting before the show so MT could add this autograph to the guitar. I never really expected a reply but a few days later I get a phone message from Allen saying he received my note and said that MT could meet be at the HOB Hotel bar before the show.

So, of course, my wife and I head to the bar a few hours before show time with my Stones axe in the truck of my car. (Just didn't have the nerve to bring it in without 1) being sure MT showed & 2) asking in person if he would care to sign). After about a hour or so MT shows up and sits down at the bar right next to us. I introduced myself and explained of my note to Allen, then asked if he wouldn't mind autographing my RS gutar. He seemed surprised that I had such an item and wanted to see it so I ran to the car, grabed the red fender and brought it to the bar. MT took it over to a table, examined the existing autographs and signed his name. He allowed me take take a few photos of him signing, posed with the guitar, and another patron took a few pictures of the 3 of us. (I have photos of the other Stones signing as well.) We chatted for about 20-25 minutes.

MT was very polite & friendly, has no issues speaking of is days with the Stones, his friendship w/ Ronnie, playing on KR's first solo LP, etc. Offered to buy him a drink but only wanted a lemonade as he didn't want to drink before the show. Quite an evening.

Meet everyone except Mick. One of my best Friends was one of Freddy's sons and we went to a lot of shows on the Bigger Bang tour. Keith was very down to earth and treated us to dinner. Spoke to Charlie about horses.

I met Keith and Charlie in 1992 at the Blue Note in Manhatten. Charlie was performing his "From one Charlie" with his quartet.

My friend and I had an artical from the NY Post which was a review of Charlies show the night before. It had a picture of Charlie and the title was "Gaunt and Grey". We just walked right to the dressing room there was no security and Charlie was there we asked him to sign a poster and showed him the artical from the paper and he said :Gaunt and grey....thats me" and smiled. He then asked us if we were going to the premiere of Barnard Fowlers new movie. We looked at each and then asked "Benard is in a movie"? and Charlie laughed and said "Don't be riduculos....Bernard Fowler in a movie". It was an inside joke that someone in earshot of us also laughed at.

So we went back to our seats and in walks in Keith with his dad Bert and two other guys. We waited until after the show to approach him. When we asked Kieth when the new album was coming out he just said "Were working on it"....Then some other fans overheard us and asked Keith the same question and Keith raised his voice and said "When its ready!". The best part was that very encounter is in a Beggars Banquet summer of 1992 issue. It said "when some fans approached Keith at The Charlie show and asked when his new album was coming out Keith gave them the proverbial..When its ready!". Funny thing was Bill German was not there and it was not until we found out years later that Keith was his source...lol

Besides what I posted before, I forgot Beast and I had drinks with Bobby Keys one night until a younger female came by and took the bar count from 3 to 4. Quick as a heart beat we lost his attention without so much as "later." >grinning smiley< no "bros before ho's" sentiment there!

My sister and I had breakfast at the table next to Blondie in Shanghai when he decided for some reason to share his interest in pornography and younger women with us until his food came. The more I stop and think the more I realize there have been lots of close encounters through the years. I have pics of Beast smiling with Ronnie, my arm around Jo , Beast and Barnard, been to an after show party with several of Mick's and Ronnie's kids.... to me they have often seemed like big moments, and that was what most have been , momentary encounters that I am sure are quickly forgotten by the other side.

LOL but in a way , to have Ron Wood call you "that crazy fu%%er from..." is a Rock and Roll Red Badge of Courage to be worn.

I live at Grand Canyon National Park and work at the small airport there...my boss came to me one time and asked if I'd do a private tour later that afternoon for a small charter flight coming in...as I usually start at 5:00 AM I didn't really want to but I said Ok...lo and behold the helicopter lands and Ronnie steps off...a great four hours were had!!!!

That's rather a watered-down version of the encounter with Bobby Keys but am not sure that the full version would pass the censors! Don't forget the various encounters with Keith's kids as well winking smiley

Met them all except Mick (though I've been in the same bar as him) and have had numerous encounters with all the entourage, several of the women (Anita, Marianne and Jo) and most of the kids. Charlie I met only once apart from standing next to him another time and he very graciously got his guy to dig out a drumstick for me from his collection when I asked him if he was giving out drumsticks that night. I've met Ronnie many times and Keith at a book signing. And there was also the other encounter with Keith mentioned by kahoosier, though we didn't speak to him as such. Have also met Mick Taylor a few times. The one time I met Bill was at an after-party a few years ago.

...Met Bill Wyman backstage in Antwerp, (Belgium), in january 2010, after his Rhythm Kings gig over there. He had a bit of his own 'posse' going on in his dressingroom, but a couple of fans/ passers-by were welcome too.
We shook hands, he greeted (everybody & ) me with dignity & distance (as one might expect from a world-famous rockstar that has 'seen it all'...). We exchanged some pleasanteries about the concert - "Great gig, Bill!" - "Thank you so much!" - "Band was on fire..." - yeah, we were, weren't we?"... stuff like that.
Finally, I asked him as friendly a polite as I could (I really didn't wanna sound pushy or demanding) if he would mind signing my "Sticky Fingers"-album (original pressing) that I brought. (I wasn't gonna hassle him, but I brought it with me 'cause I didn't wanna miss out on an opportunity like thàt, you see. One of the original members, after all...)

He immediately refused, in a very decisive manner, claiming he never does, nor would ever want to, sign Rolling Stones stuff anymore. "I have nothing more to do with that band since almost 20 years now", were his exact words.

Off course I was disappointed, but hey - it's his prerogative to sign or not sign an autograph, right?! I don't feel entitled to that, just because I'm a fán. so I could live with that.
I did leave about 5 minutes later (as were all the invited 'hangers-on'; atmosphere grew more and more 'private' - so it was the obvious thing to do.)

Back up, when leaving the venue, I saw the (official) Rhythm Kings tour handout for the first time that night.
On the back it had all the cities & venues they were playing, and on the front it read, above the obvious close-up picture of Bill on stage, in very large & capital letters:

" EX-ROLLING STONE ON TOUR!!"

I kinda drew my own conclusions, then.

(And I'll keep my "Sticky Fingers" copy safe, for when Mick Taylor's in town.)

P.S.: I remember there were only two other people asking him to sign something - both had a RK-tour poster with them. He DID sign those. smoking smiley

I met Bill at Lords cricket ground in 2010. I heard he was being interviewed in the commentary box and went and bought an autograph bat and waited at the exit for him to come out. Asked him for his autograph and told him my two favourite things are the stones and cricket and he said mine too. Very pleasant and signed love bill.
