Not sad really. The man was desperate for a rest. God saw that and called him home.
Congrats George...you were truly one of the best.

He did listen to the Rolling Stones, only because of the guitar playing of Keith Richards, a country fan who would eventually record with Jones.

Oh no...that is very sad. We saw him several years ago, had great seats right up front, what a thrill.

RIP George.

RIP George. I know you're better off today than you were yesterday. Godspeed Possum!

Now I just have to figure out if I can pull of either "He Stopped Loving Her Today" or "White Ligtning" at my gig tonight... I wonder if I could find some white lightning in time to propose a propper toast to The Man!

Peace,
Mr DJA

No, his body just stopped working enough to keep him alive.

Great artist. Country music is now officially dead. Say hi to Hank! Tell him his son is an idiot. The Bush family would understand.

Ooohh... Another good idea... I'm trying to come up with something that I can sing, my audience will recognize and my guitar player can handle on next to no notice. Gonna have to cue up "Race is On" now... Hope y'all have a good show tomorrow!

Peace,
Mr DJA

Listened to a lot of older country music over the years but never really got a chance to listen to his stuff. Without guys like him would The Rolling Stones exist? Yes, but they wouldn't be quite the same band. RIP.

"Lyin' awake in a cold, cold sweat. Am I overdrawn, am I going in debt?
It gets worse, the older that you get. No escape from the state of confusion I'm in.

Sad news this morning. There will never be a voice like his again.

"His singing, which was universally respected and just as widely imitated, found vulnerability and doubt behind the cheerful drive of honky-tonk. With a baritone voice that was as elastic as a steel-guitar string, he brought suspense to every syllable, merging bluesy slides with the tight, quivering ornaments of Appalachian singing." Because of Keith & Mick mentionning his name years ago, I decided to listen to George Jones. I am not a fan of country&western music but Jones' music caught my fancy right away after listening to "The Bradley barn sessions". What a great record. George Jones was a great singer and a wild man in his younger days. RIP
Rock and roll,
Mops
