A very cool cat indeed. He had two very good solo efforts that showed a lot of promise and then I lost track of him...

Did a couple of solo albums during the 90's, drifted into filmscores but hasn't done much at all this century. As for The Band, Rick Danko passed away in 1999 leaving only Robertson, Garth Hudson and Levon Helm from the original line up.

Danko worked with Keith on the track Duece and a Quarter found on:

All The Kings Men - SWET 0002-2

Try and find the gatefold version which contains ROM footage of Keith, Ronnie and Scotty Moore.

Robertsons' 'The Weight' is one of my all time favorite songs.

He also put out two albums with Native American musicians - great music if you're interested in alternative music. -Album titles "Contact from the Underworld of Red Boy" and "Music for the Native Americans". Check Music web sites for samples to see if you like it - really great stuff.

Was watching the Last Waltz once again over the Holidays. He was a pretty damn good lead guitarist while with The Band.

What a great arrangement of musicians they were!

Richard Manuel, who also passed-away, was also an original member

A friend of mine back in the mid-eighties was originally from the Woodstock area of NY. He owned a jewlry/head shop up there during the 60's and 70's. He would always mention all the famous musicians he was personal friends with from up there, including Dylan and the members of The Band. I always kinda took his stories with a grain of salt.

Well one day he tells me that Rick Danko and some friends were playing at The Lonestar Cafe in NYC and asked me if I wanted to go. Of course I agreed figuring it would certainly put to rest if he really knew all these guys.

Sure enough when we arrived at The Lonestar we were escorted upstairs to the "backstage room." We walked in and he was greeted with warm hugs and handshakes from Rick, Levon Helm, Richard Manuel, Dylan (who was so out of it he could barely stand up), and Steve Forbert.

I was impressed to say the least. The show of course was really good. Forbert also got up for a tune, but Dylan remained in the audience at a table upstairs.
