Just heard a live version of it from 1989 - and though the beginning is quite slaughtered by the band I think this song has got something live...what do ya think???

The song worked very well live, but unfortunately the Stones played it only a few times.

It should have something--the guitar chords are almost identical to Under My Thumb, with a bit of JJF thrown in. Keith demonstrated this once in an interview. Live, it can never quite match the studio version, because the recorded version had Jimmy Page on guitar. Still, a solid underrated song by The Stones, still worth hearing even if the rest of Dirty Work is a bit dated production-wise. If they were going to attempt this live, it would be a great vehicle to bring on a guest guitarist, so that it could more accurately approach the original.

On the studio version Page played only the solo. The 89 live version usually ran out of steam way before solo time. I blame the big band arrangement. It caged and diluted Keith's guitar work. It suffered the same illness that castrated Devil.

I always liked the studio version and I saw them on September 3rd 1989 at the old CNE Stadium in Toronto. It was a thrill to hear it live although I am sure most of the crowd did not know it. For someone who started going to Stones shows only in 1981, I've done pretty well for witnessing obscure songs: Down The Road Apiece, Tops, One Hit To The Body, Play With Fire, Terrifying,Hot Stuff, Brand New Car, No Expectations, Far Away Eyes, Moonlight Mile, The Nearness Of You, Rock Me Baby

I love it. A masterpiece.

right on micks chick,i like fight,had it with you,one hit,dirty work,thinks its alot better than given credit.crank it again one day,give it a freash run thru,vey raw album,which i like.

It's actually Mick and Ron who are off beat with the intro that sort of deludes Keith. He's starts off right, then it's mick an Rons wrong figure that at the end also makes Charlie insecure, and the crash is inevitable.

Also Keith doesn't play the riff throughout.

Anyway a very good stones rocker!
