Famous non-touring bands?

With all this talk of if/when The Stones are going to tour (soon, I hope) I wondered......are there any famous bands that never toured? There probably are--help me think of some.

The Buggles never toured. They made a few TV appearances, but never a proper live show.

The Traveling Wilburys. Bunch of flat-out liars, they were.

Seems like Steely Dan almost never toured until they returned in the 90's

Not necessarily famous, but it seems that after 1982 XTC didn't play live at all, and that means another 10 years of just studio albums and occasional TV appearances.

Harry Nilsson

Harry was complex and he was many things. A band he was not, however.

Just listened to Nilsson Schmilsson the other night and realized he never toured. They say he's one of the few, but he's pretty much the only one I know of.

In a way, you could say John Lennon never toured post Beatles. He played one or two shows but thats about it, and he had 5 albums come out. And then obviously there's the Beatles who didn't tour for half of their career.

I also wanted to mention Harry Nilsson................by the way, why should you tour back then, if you could make a lot money releasing records I don't think they made a lot of money touring back then

Can't ever remember either Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band or Bennie & The Jets ever touring.

Peace,
Mr DJA

Because Andy Partridge suffered from stage fright. The Dukes of Swindon were one of the greatest English bands through the 80-90-00 if you ask me.

Excuse me? These folks toured and played gigs all over the place! Even had their own designer bus. Sounds like you never watched the show at all.

Speaking of Dukes, this band never toured at all. They just seemed to make one great album and.... disappear.

Thanks man, it's nice to know we meant something to someone.

As Zoot, who I thought I was back in the day, being seven will do that to you

Personally I dug the Jug Bands "For What's It's Worth", seminal even.

In the heyday of their TV series, the Monkees never toured & barely even played on their recordings. They did tour later on after the series was finished

Oh, yes, they did. Their first concert was in December of '66.

Look my friend, 'we buried Paul'...that's it, backward masking on Strawberry Fields forever, shoeless on the cover of Abbey Road...do you need more evidence?

The fake Paul even recorded 'Live and Let Die'...he lives, Paul dies.

Horrible stuff.
