Dylan is part of the sixties, like The Stones, Beatles, Kinks, Who. So talking about him is natural. And many connections between Dylan and The Stones. Only five? That is hard, and could also change depending on mood. But for now....how about these...

Blonde on Blonde (mono!)
Blood on the Tracks
Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
Live at Albert Hall (Bootleg Series)
Highway 61 Revisited.

I'm not into early Dylan. I understand why that's considered his best work, but I enjoy listening to the "song and dance" Bob more than the old folkie.

Blood on The Tracks
New Morning
Infidels
Street Legal
Oh Mercy

Ok - just for that, I'm going to substitute Street-Legal for Desire, even though I can probably live without S-L if forced to.

Fans of early Dylan might be interested in listening to Sweden's Tallest Man on Earth (aka Kristian Mattson)...

Oh, these CDs just happen to be my 5 favourite ones. But,on the other hand, I could have taken New Morning instead of Desire, which would have been a good choice, too!

One of these things is not like the others. No, one of these things just doesn't belong. Can you guess which thing is not like the others, before I finish my song?

Blood on the Tracks
Planet Waves
Blonde on Blonde
Desire
Slow Train Coming (or Saved, or Hard Rain - arrgg)

Like Jimmy the Saint, I understand the absurb greatness of Dylan's first decade, but for pure listening pleasure, I'll take the second decade (Planet Waves to Infidels), studio and live.

Are you saying that Modern Times doesn't belong ? I think it's a fabulous album.

I have a good friend who insists that Infidels is the greatest record of all time. It's not, of course, but if you suggest this to this friend of mine, you are risking all-out warfare. I'm not sure, but it's possible that this friend of mine has a condition that will eventually, if not treated, lead him to a life in the sanitarium.
