Listening to the Dime boot and there is this weird interruption at the end of "Roll Over Beethoven" with the promoter explaining that CB is angry because his passport is missing pages and he wants the promoter to pay for a new passport or something like that...apparently he says he's going to pay for it so the show goes on...The guy has a French accent it seems, could it be the promoter of the "Casino de Paris" concert too?

Turning To Gold
What these legendary people like Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis need to do more of is TALK AND TELL STORIES AND TAKE QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE, and then play a little short bit at the end.
I saw Jerry Lee Lewis a couple of years ago at a music festival and it was terrible and sad, completely embarassing to watch him. And I love Jerry Lee! But I would GLADLY pay a little bit less, with different expectations, to see Jerry Lee Lewis take questions from the crowd, talk, tell stories about the old days, remembrances of his contemporaries, to have him give a little piano lesson and then play 3-4 songs, in a smaller venue.
Same with Chuck Berry! As a lifetime fan of his music, I don't NEED to hear him play all his hits badly, at 86 years of age. I need to hear him TELL STORIES or TEACH ME SOMETHING or watch him interact with the people who love and revere him, to let him know WE appreciate him! The love of the audience at a Chuck Berry show is more important than he is as a performer!!!
Can you imagine what we could learn from Chuck, about what it was like to sing his songs and do what he did during segregation in America, if we could get him to open up and find out whose music he listened to as a boy, his earliest memories, what he thought of the Chess brothers, or what the inspiration or meaning was for so many of his great songs? I'd pay to see THAT. I know they've all been interviewed a million times and it gets old, but there is so much that could be gotten from our living legends like this, if people just had the right expectations and vehicle for them -- instead of making a mockery of their legacy by having them be up there playing badly and out of tune.

Since you mention the "Killer" :
In the "Great Balls Of Fire" movie, an encounter happens between JJL and Chuck (they share the same bill), and the piano player says to Berry : "Go on you killer!"
Well, it seems that in reality Lewis said to Mr Berry : "Go on yu nigger!" so the Hendrix anecdote doesn't surprise me...

Some here would be surprised at who actually does follow this page (those affiliated with the Rolling Stones that is) and follow it closely.

When my mother was dying a slow, miserable death, Chuck Berry's music always made her smile.
