I remember once I made a funny joke in the control room everyone laughed and Mick then looked at me and shot me a dirty look... The room went dead, he was nicer to me the rest of the day but I now knew my place in the room and stayed serious. Entertaining folks 100,000 at a time builds big egos, you have to keep it in perspective. If they hated you you'd not be around at all.

mostly ironing and folding. occasional plumbing chores, too. i admit, it wasn't very glamorous, but i considered myself within the inner sanctum....not sure if they did or not.

speaking of ray charles, sorta - i read a book a couple of years back on the history of the emigration of african americans from the south...wonderfully written and documented by isabel wilkerson. one of the figures she follows is a doctor who migrated to los angeles...one of his clients there was ray charles...the guy tells a few interesting stories about brother ray.

there was some reference to a migrant cotton-field worker...came by way of new orleans...originally from the gold coast. didn't catch the name, but to this day she's still celebrated in song, occasionally performed in large concert venues. quite amazing.

All I get from that is that my guitar playing problems stem from the fact that I'm not spending more money on my guitars.

Sorry but I have to disagree, Charlie I think will play and go along with anything Keith and Mick might do regardless of how uncomfortable or tense the situation might be. He's been doing just that all along afterall and playing with the Stones is whats made him a rich man. Without them he might have made a modest living as a musician at best or a part time musician full time 9 to 5 er like most of us at worst. Charlie seems like a hell of a nice guy for sure but lets not kid ourselves. He loves the money as much as anyone and I'm quite sure would hate to give up the pampered lifestyle he's become accustomed to, over something as trivial as two band mates being bitchy towards eachother.
