Baffling. Personally, I think about half of those songs are excellent (Nos 1, 2, 3, 9 & 10) , the two reggae songs are very good and the rest are decent enough apart from No.4.

There seems to be a bit of a trend amongst these sort of polls which suggest that there are quite a few Stones fans whose musical taste doesnt stray that much beyond the standard diet of rockers, with genres like reggae, funk and ballads being particularly unappreciated.

A pity, because the tag 'greatest rock n roll band in the world' somewhat shortchanges the band's talents a bit, as they're a lot more diverse than that.

Until 1981 (except for some numbers off ER) there is not one song that I find awful, even the "bad" ones still have some soul and sound sincere and have a lot of redeeming qualities. From Undercover until ABB I find it really hard to find one song that's as good as anything from the previous period, it's like a different band. I could take 10 random songs from any of those albums and it would make my list of "10 worst Stones songs".

You are completely right, stones78. Up to and including 'Tattoo You', there is barely a Stones song i intensely dislike. Even the Stones early more mediocre songwriting efforts like 'Grown Up Wrong' have something to offer, even if they are well below par compared with the standards the Stones would set a short while later. I think 'Emotional Rescue' the album, is, in places, a pretty good indication of what was to come post 'Tattoo You', however, but i still don't feel a strong dislike for those songs. 'Undercover' is where things really do start to come apart.

Someone mentioned Monkey Man... Are you @#$%& mad?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? That's one of the greatest Stones compositions ever laid on vinyl. Keith shines the whole way through on this one. Just unbelievable!!!

Other gems that are criminally named as 'worst' here, are No Use In Crying and Heaven (both are underrated pearls IMO). Mick's vocals on these tracks are haunting. Actually, side B of Tatoo You is probably the most cohesive piece of work they ever wrote (even though it took them 10 years to record them), aside from Exile that is ofcourse.

My thoughts exactly - Monkey Man is one of the greatest tunes ever - not just by the Stones but by any rock 'n' roll band. And the same person mentioned Soul Survivor & HAve You Seen Yuor Mother Baby? I think they are posting in the wrong forum.

P.S. I also think Dance Pt. I & Can You Hear The Music (among others mentioned) are great songs too. To each their own I suppose.

Not really in any particular order, but "Rock" has always been embarrassing and "Can't Be Seen" is worse. Together, they undermine an otherwise underrated album. "I Go Wild" sounds like Jagger's hopelessly lame attempt to engineer a stadium sing-along. The Bigger Bang material comes from the album's astonishingly weak second half. Many people with whom I normally agree have praised "Laugh," but I hear a bombastic and strained ("I feel like an actor looking for a role...?") attempt to inject some much-needed "soul" into the album. I so wish it had worked, but...

Several of the usual suspects on my list, with a few--I'm looking at you, "Blinded By Rainbows." You too, "Suck On The Jugular"--neglected for reasons of space.

Fun to do these, but reading the thread only confirms: there's no accounting for taste...

Just like Stones78 says: up till '83 (for me) there really isn't a single Stones song that I dislike. Even if there is one where I may not like the melody too much, or something - the very fact that it is the Stones elevates it to worship.

That makes no sense. Choice is about having one or the other, not whether something is good or bad. The quality of it may have an influence on what your choice will be.

What you're saying is you have don't give anything quality, which means for you Dirty Work is as great of an album as Sticky Fingers.

For sure there are a lot of stinkers from the post-1981 era but I just don't know those albums like the earlier albums. I have at least heard the songs but I can just as easily "forget" a good chunk of them. In general post-1981 is just an amorphous mass of songs to me, and only a proportion of them are living in my head.

As far as the dance/disco/funk material goes, most of it is really quite good. I also have a soft spot for "Where the Boys Go." I love the fake Cockney accent and the forced sneer. I think it's a kind of tip of the hat and a poke in the stomach at Punk.
