No one wants to go up to the salespeople and ask if they have "GRRR" in stock.

I think the fact that we even have to ask for this information is ridiculous.
I vote that when GeorgeLicks contract comes for renewal we begin the search for a replacement statistician for IORR.
Either that or we give him one last chance, albeit with a written warning to his file.

One "Grrr!" counts as 1.

According to “Mediatraffic”, “Grrr!” has sold 1,011,000 copies worldwide so far, being at #12 on it’s 7th week (tomorrow, Saturday, we can see the numbers –sales and position- of the 8th week).
According to the other global chart, named “musicchart”, “Grrr!” has sold about 100,000 copies more, so far (reported 973,000 but on the 6th album’s week).
According to “Mediatraffic”, the “run” of “Grrr!” is: #5, #11, #11, #12, #9, #12, #12
According to “Musicchart”: #3, #10, #9, #12, #11, #11
Very good global sales anyway, i think.

treaclefingers, your thought could be a strong anti- Stones argument: "The only reason why 'Grrr!' sells well is that this horrible gorilla does terrorize the customers in the stores. Shame on you, Stones..."
I think some "censuring all the time" funs could claim something like that, too...

I also think the whole makeup with the Gorilla theme helped the sales a lot.

Are you suggesting that people bought the CD just to get the artwork?

No, but it arouses attention (in a positive way), because it's a very unusual yet interesting theme. The standard advertisement posters are easily overlooked. But it's hard to overlook that gorilla which is a good thing promotion wise.

And you bought it, right? Because you like big monkeys on album covers? THAT is a plus for record sales? Undercover had a much better cover. It sold more copies.
You may have a point - only backwards.

We seem to be in disagreement on this.

I think there are two key negatives to the product that are hurting sales.
1. The title. It would be embarrassing walking into a record store (actually do they even exist anymore?) and asking for the cd.
2. The cover: If you can bring yourself to picking up the cd, you still have to pay for it, and deal with the smirk of that Gen Y sales clerk picking it up with a bemused look on his face, and ringing you up at the cash register.
It's a public humiliation. At least there is the amazon alternative.
