Mick named this version of the Stones after himself (appropriately) because he's
the only 800 lb gorilla (hugely influential person) that the band has in its ranks
anymore. Keith is just another member now, like he was in the very beginning (not
that there's anything wrong with that. Because nothing can take away from the fact
that during their peak years, Keith was the most important member of the group).

Spot on, Super. And he wore a gorilla suit during their last concert (Newark PPV, Dec 15) to further underline it. Sir Michael is the alpha male gorilla in The Rolling Stones - the silverback giant!

Jagger was never not the most important member of the group, to take nothing from Keith's contribution.

...and without Ronnie, Keith and Mick would never have gotten past WW3, or without Charlie's drumming, they wouldn't have had their unique sound. The amount of contribution has varied at different times amongst all the members over their 50 years. You could simply say that without each of them we probably wouldn't have had that unparalleled group known as The Rolling Stones.

Without The Rolling Stones we wouldn't have had The Rolling Stones? Isn't that a circular argument Bloomer?

Nope. Some advertising company came up with about 12 ideas. Narrowed it down to about six. Went before mick and charlie and that's what they picked. Same old story.

"No no, nothing with Greatest Rock & Roll blah blah in it"
"How about abbreviating it?"
[Ronnie starts writing GRRBITW but gets distracted in the middle]
"GRR?!?"
"GRR!!!" [general hilarity]
"Come on! Yes! All right! We can do this!"

it was developed by a guy named Walton ford.

His name is credited in the tour program.

It's not really that bad a name, it's easily remembered, very simple and quirky

Yeah, I quite like that monkey now...the question is whether Grrr...came BEFORE or AFTER the Walton Ford design?
