JJF 1989

IMO the best version in the Ronnie era. What an energy... We can see and hear how the 2012 ones are far more slower and less powerful...

Great stage performance, and I loved the '89 show I saw, but this version, and the other SW/UJ performances, is/are too clean and airbrushed for me. This is the beginning of the Vegas era, and everything is so damned polished and stale. Give me '81, '78, '75, '72, etc... over anything SW era and beyond for musical superiority and energy.

Too fast. Too much backup singers. (For me).

Best version ever of JJF is Barcelona 1990 (The one from the PPV).

I'm normally not a fan of the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tour, don't care too much for Mick's voice, don't like the guitar sound, and it normally sounds flat. But I enjoyed that performance. It has energy. It has nothing to do with the sound, but I liked Mick's boxing robe, strange choice, but it works.

How many beats per minute is the album version of JJF? And how many beats in this live version?

Also, is it just me or does the tempo slow around :26 into this version?

I REALLY like the Love You Live version of JJF.

I actually prefer the 2012 version to be honest.

I've always liked the "Rock & Roll Circus" version. It was brand new so they were totally behind it, the arrangement was simple and in standard tuning (have they played it that way since?) and since that came out when I was a teenager and not long after I got into the Stones, it was the first and for several years the only, live version of the song I had. These days I'm more likely to put on the Ya Ya's version, but mainly because I've probably heard the Circus version over the years as many times as I've heard the studio version.

1976 are quite good But nothing compare with the 1969, 1971 or 1972 ones...

Ket: "I actually prefer the 2012 version to be honest."

Me too. And not only the 2012 version... On SW-UJ tour the guitars sound was very thin and less raw, to me.

The only things that are airbrushed on this performance are Keith's jeans.

JJF - The 1989 version did have energy but its too fast. The 1976 versions from Paris are great until Mick starts singing. The 1969 version has always been my favorite and I too like the R&R Circus version very simple and a little slower than normal.

That 1976 Paris version has an awesome opening riff but Jagger just sucks on that version.

This year's versions are quite good as well. Also whenever I've been at at a show the song is always energetic you can tell Mr. Richards likes this song.

IMO faster tempos often equate to cheap thrills and obliterate the essential rhythm of the song. Tempo-wise this one grabs me where I want to be grabbed:

Well it's Bill Wyman, always better. His on stage authority keeps the train wrecks away, Keith gets lost in himself in the reintro but Bill pulls it back, Mick hears it and we get four extra bars but no fu. That's not happening these days, the band deserves a more forceful bassist. BTW I prefer the slower tempo from this year.
