Guitar question - Micawber
Posted by: tomcat2006 ()

A question for the guitarists out there please.

If I want to try and get the closest to a KR clone for Micawber, do you have any suggestions as to specs (or even better, a direct buying source) to try and do this?

I've done some Googling and feel that perhaps someone (Mathis?) on this board may be the best informed.

Cheers for any help you can give...

That one is not similar to micawber. The best copy in my opinion is the ESP/Edwards micawber version.

What are you looking for -a guitar that sounds closest to Micawber, or that looks most like it?

If you want looks buy any good Tele with a nitro lacquer (Fender is selling a good Tele with humbucker) and send it to a luthier who'se good with nitro together with some good pics of Micawber. That will get you closests to the looks, as as far as I know none of the available guitars really look much like Micawber. The luthier can be found on places like www.lespaulforum.org. If in the US, contact Mark from [www.marksguitarloft.com].

For sound, the brass bridge is important, and these are a bit difficult to find (about all Tele's being sold these days with a brass bridge are actually plated bridges). Schecter hand them years ago, and this is where Keith and Andy Summers got them from. As a pickup a vintage one with raised pole pieces is correct, and many new ones based on original vintage ones are available. I prefer Seymour Duncan Nocaster pickups.

Soundwise a would recomend a Fender lapsteel pickup in the bridgeposition.

sweeeet! Love the fret wear and the blackface Fender amp. I hate guitars that look like they've never been played and don't care much for the collectors who stash 'em away on a wall or a case for an investment. peace

@ JumpinJeppeFlash : you're a lucky man...

Anyone know an artisan capable of aging a guitar in Paris (France)? how much it can cost?

The lapsteel pickups from the 50's are exactly the same as the Nocaster/Telecaster pickups from the 50's, except for the third screwhole in the early 50's. Sonically there is no difference.

Buy a new one.

Micawber was new once and paid it's dues.

thumbs up that "aged in factory" trend is crap imo. To me it's a bit like theses electric shavers that give you an instant 3-day old stubble eye rolling smiley

You don't buy street cred... you earn it.

Sorry, half of these specs are incorrect for a '53 Tele. This Time Series is meant as a modern playable guitar (with wider 9.5" scale for example) with 50's appoinments.

These specs are way wrong, micawber is a 53 telecaster.
