In being Mick, when he left the voting booth, I think he said 'voted left again'.
Indeed Mick is mentioned as a fundraiser for the obama campagne.

Mick was JOKING.

I have the Being Mick DVD and Mick did not reveal which way he voted. He made a joke about it.

The exact exchange:

CAMERAMAN: "Are you going to let on?" [regarding which way he voted]

MICK: "Of course not. I'm not going to let on to you! I just can't tell you if I'm voting AGAIN for the Socialist Workers Party."

The Socialist Workers Party is a small far-left party (totally apart from the Labour Party) and Mick was joking that he'd voted for it, when obviously he didn't.

In a Penthouse interview just before Reagan's second term, Mick said, "I asked a bunch of black guys at the studio yesterday who they were voting for. And they all said, `Reagan.' Anyone making money is voting for Reagan." And Mick was not condemnatory toward these black guys.

I think Mick is a social liberal and conservative when it comes to money. Even though he has a fortune he lost a fortune back in the sixties with the ABCKO mess and the british tax rates would make anyone who has money conservative inthat regard. Keith who knows..............and who really cares they make great music together!

They're both obviously leftists. Socialism is the religion of the rich. Always has been, always will be.

I give up. You can't discuss politics with, many, Americans. They seem to believe that there are only two parties in the world: Republicans and Democrats. You're either a liberal or a conservative. Nothing else exists. And they also believe that Mick Jagger, who was born and bred in England, Europe, makes his political decisions solely based on the American two-party system. It's like their baseball league which they call "The World Series" as if the USA was the only country in the world. So, this is no use.

Re: Bono
Those using him as an example obviously have no idea where Bono stands politically. Yes he preaches from the stage regarding the causes he believes in. But I assure you if Bono was a "radical" He wouldn't have agreed to be interviewed by Mike Huckabee, and wouldn't have personally invited Glenn Beck and his family back stage.

Is Jagger eligable to vote in the U.S.? He's not a citizen or, usually, a resident. I can imagine him voting Tory. I've made the decision to never vote again, myself.

One can be friends with political figures without blindly agreeing with all of their views. Whatever the Stones political views are, thank God they have largely kept them out of their music. They've made plenty of social commentary in their music without preaching about how we should think. And thank God, unlike some artists, they don't waste time on stage telling us who to vote for. That's not what rock and roll is all about and they know it. As Keith once said, - roughly paraphrased to the best of my memory - "Rock and roll should be those two or three minutes when you can totally forget about politics, etc...."

"Imagining the world has stopped..." That line leapt out when Mick sang it on Sunday at the O2, because that's how it is, and how it should be, at a Stones show - the world has stopped for a couple of hours, and nothing matters but the music. Especially not politics.

From Oct. 2, 1989 FORBES: "Jagger gives Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher credit for reducing taxes sufficiently that many expatriates have returned to Britain. `Given that,' says Jagger, `everyone in England—begrudgingly, some of them—has a lot of admiration for her.'".

I'm in England and I still regard Thatcher as an evil witch who should have been burned at the stake!

Both liberals and conservatives are right-wing. In the American context there is actually very little difference between their two parties. In many ways the USA is a plutocracy. You buy yourself into politics. Lobbying groups and special interest groups buys their candidate and expect favours in return. And it's not much better in Europe although there are more parties to choose from and voters participation is larger.

In a current book, Eminent Edwardians, Mick is fulsome in his praise of Margaret Thatcher.

Initially, in 1968, Mick was approached by Tom Driberg, a labour MP, to run for parliament, but Keith told him it wasn't a good idea. I think Driberg saw Mick wearing tight trousers, and was quite taken by his meat and two veg, given Driberg's sexual orientation. This meeting is also detailed in Crag Brown's One to One, quite hilariously.

I am also mindful of the late Joe Strummer, whom it is said, started extremely Left Wing, reading The Guardian, but, prior to death, was a committed Telegraph ready. For that matter, Paul Weller also started as a committed Thatcherite, but soon swung to the Left with Red Wedge etc.

I think whoever helps ease their tax burden, will be whoever a musician votes for.

Interest never lies, as Karl Marx said. Paul Weller must be an idiot. You can't swing from Thatcher to the left an be taken seriously (if that is true).

I don't think you can determine Bono's politics based on his interview with Huckabee or friendship with Beck. Bono is a devout Christian and that has as much to do with who he associates with as his politics, whatever they are. Bono also highly praised George Bush for his work during his presidency to increase funds to fight the AIDS crisis in Africa. I don't really like when musicians pontificate from the stage, but Bono has done some very good work in the world and should be given credit for not bringing his political beliefs into it.

Stoneage - you need to cool it about the world series, ever heard of the world cup?

Sure I have heard of The World Cup, bloomer. The difference is that in The World Cup hundreds of nations participate, thus the name. In The World Series only one nation participate, thus the stupidity of the name.

It is a great quote. smiling smiley Here, I'll fix it for you...

“Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains.” - François Guizot

And as a business owner, a father, a husband and an employer, stop taking my money to do charity. I'll give to my own charities thank you, and I am not responsible for taking care of everyone who does not want to get a job.

Those of you who criticize those of us in the States fail to see the massive divide that has occurred in the past 12 years. Both parties are flawed, but only one is spending the United States into a recession. Dems are like a 20 year old college chick going on a spending spree with Daddy's credit card...

"It would be great to buy everyone on your dorm floor a car, home, healthcare, cell phone, but Daddy can't afford it!"

I do respect the fact that BV has asked us to avoid politics.

I will be brief -- FlACNVINVL neglects to mention that the warmonger President George HW Bush left the USA in a huge financial mess, one that obviously would not be cleaned up with a snap of the fingers.

Well I'm gonna stick with baseball....yeah, yeah, The World Cup is international and all that, but why begrudge the US for naming the championship game of our great national pastime The World Series? After all, we did invent it and not many other countries were playing it at the time the series started.
Jeezs stoneage, if you want to complain about the US, that's all well and good, but please stay away from baseball. You're gonna break some hearts here....winking smiley

Republican and Democrat are American phrases but "liberal" and "conservative" are philosophies which apply to everyone around the world.
