Where does Mick and Keith stand politically?
Posted by: DiscoVolante ()

Anyone knows? Have they ever expressed some political thougts or views? Their most political songs I would say are Street Fighting Man, Salt of The Earth and Sweet Neo Con and maybe that song Mick played on SNL; otherwise their output has no political themes or messages as far as I've interpreted.

Wasn't MJ at an Obama fundraiser? Or was that Clint Eastwood?

Mick and Clinton were buddies. Mick appeared at Obama's White House gig. Keith is a bit more conservative, now, according to rumor. They are are in favor of redistributing your wealth, through ticket prices.

Keith and Clinton are friends too; there is a picture somewhere of the two of them exiting a restuarant together after a lunch date.

In being Mick, when he left the voting booth, I think he said 'voted left again'.
Indeed Mick is mentioned as a fundraiser for the obama campagne.

I rememeber Mick being asked once by a UK daily newspaper where his political loyalties were.

His smart reply was, my heart is Labour but my money is Conservative!

What a drag it is gettin' old

Didn't we discuss this before? To cut it short: Sir Michael is a neoliberal (libertarian of sorts). If you don't know what that means - look it up. Keith is pretty much apolitical. Like most musicians.

i don't think it much matters; it (their political partisanship) does not reflect in the music, much if at all, anyway.

Exactly. I don't really care about the poltical views of a band or musician unless they are really radical which of course The Stones are not.

I was really thinking of people like Barbara Streisand or Ted Nugent. I don't like Bono preaching from the stage but I'm not sure I would consider Bono a radical.

maybe radishes give him radical rashes or something...don't be so judgmental until all the information is revealed...

Mick once came out publicly in support of the Conservative party. Back in the late 80s or early 90s I think.

From Oct. 2, 1989 FORBES: "Jagger gives Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher credit for reducing taxes sufficiently that many expatriates have returned to Britain. `Given that,' says Jagger, `everyone in England—begrudgingly, some of them—has a lot of admiration for her.'"

Keith declined the invite for the the Stones to play the Live 8 benefit because the forgiving of African debt was "too amorphous" a cause.

The Stones shot videos in Mexico in the 80's purely for tax reasons (according to UNDER THEIR THUMB ).
