The album (#12 in the chart this week) has sold 103,000 copies in the UK in only 3 weeks, by far the best worldwide performance by the album. Doom and Gloom remains in the Top 75 singles by third week at #68 and has sold over 30k digital copies, not bad at all by a new Stones single in 2012.

In comparison the album has sold 48,000 copies in the US and is already down to #64 after 2 weeks.

According to “Mediatraffic”, “Grrr!” made debut at #5 on the global album chart. Second week, # 11. Sales on the two weeks: 260,000 copies (148,000 + 112,000).

Trying to understand what exactly does that mean these days, i saw albums sales done by other famous pop –rock artists, at the same time or one –two week before “Grrr” came out. So, during their first two weeks the following bands or solo artists have (or had) sold: Celine Dion 305,000, Robbie Williams 295,000, Green Day 226,000, Aerosmith 200,000, Soundgarden 134,000, Christina Aquilera, 118,000, Neil Young 119,000, Kylie Minogue 85,000 copies.

I think “Grrr!” sells very well, considering it’ s “texture”. The album includes only two songs. It’s “another Stones compilation”, being labelled as “useless” by many, many fans. And, in fact, if you already are familiarized with the Stones and their music, you don’t need “Grrr!” (unless you are a hardcore fan, a collector or both).

BUT… It seems like “Grrr!” does attract a notable number of younger people. And “Gloom and Doom” already has 5,2 million views on Youtube. Nice…

Grr is the first Stones album (minus those old, weird AKBCO compliations) that I have not purchased.
