Assuming there are two or three Gimme Shelter females remaining, guess them


The wild card is: Who's a closet Stones fan? I mean, who knew Florence Welch loved them?

That's why, on the basis of her known affection for the Stones, Norah Jones would have been my
favorite for Brooklyn, but she's on tour in South America.

Other than Norah, who can only somewhat belt it out, I tend to think the real belters have to
be the favorites, the ones who can at least try to take on what Merry Clayton laid down as the
gospel truth.

And since it is New York, I'm going to take out of contention all the strong country female
singers. And Taylor Swift too.

Some contenders are, as far as I know, currently inactive: Tina Turner, Adele, Merry Clayton.

I see that Aretha Franklin is doing some shows in December. So she's got to be in contention.
Especially since she's already compatible with much of the Stones audience.

I don't think Jay-Z will allow Beyonce to do it. He's positioned her in the market as perfect
and unapproachable.

Vocally, Jennifer Hudson can blow anybody's doors off, and seems to be always trying to broaden
her audience, so I think she has to be in the mix.

I think Duffy and Leona Lewis are out for NY because they're too British.

I think someone else on IORR has brought up Alicia Keyes, and I agree that she fits quite well
into the mold that has given us Blige and Welsh.

Joss Stone would do it in a heartbeat, and do it on the cheap, plus with all the controversy
and media notice her appearance would cause, it can't be ruled out.

Most of the white pop girls are much too lightweight, but the exception I think is Pink, who
I bet would love to do it. She grew up a rocker, and her notoriously loyal fans would boost
the PPV take.

Lastly, getting ready for her first stadium tour, obviously studying Jagger, and already transforming
her band into an alternative-type rock band is Rihanna. Her management would be against doing it
on the Stones terms, but Rih often tells her management to get fcuked. And, like Pink, she would
significantly boost the PPV take.

So those are my possibles right now, in no particular order: Aretha, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keyes,
Joss Stone, Pink, and Rihanna. Place your bets.

She's got a newborn, and would not even do one promotional appearance for her
current James Bond hit single Skyfall. Her voice might be right, but she's
completely out of action otherwise. The James Bond thing was a previous
contractual agreement that she was allowed to record at home.

Adele makes sense because Jagger likes to jump on the hot singer of the moment. Plus she is very good.
Joss of course makes sense; she'a friend of Jagger.

Oh P!nk would be perfect but I think it won't happen.
Tina Turner would be the best choice but chances are less than minimal.

So I guess I have to with Alicia Keyes.

Not sure the "voice" matters that much, Florence Welsh wasn't terribly impressive in that department yesterday, unlike Mary J. Blige on Sunday, but she made up for it action wise and it worked.

It's funny - I woke up this morning thinking the same thought. Who would we like to see? Expect to see? I think Aretha is a good choice. Given the two picked for London, it seems they are thinking a bit edgy, a bit out of the box. I agree with some of the names listed. I might also add Grace Potter (Nocturnals) as a possibility - she's young, on the rise, good pipes -and hot. I think Tina Turner would be the most fun though!

Fergie, Joss Stone, Christina Aguilera.

If any of those are correct, anyone at the shows has my deepest sympathies.

I thought Fergie saved that version with U2, she really sounded good and she's pretty hot!

Lady Gaga is a long shot - she's overseas right now, but could make it for Dec. 15.
I thought of another long shot - Wanda Jackson? R&R pioneer who's on the road these days- but Mick tends to like singing with the young ones.
