"He compares the new album with Exile on Main Street"

They have done that since 1989, at least.

"I really would like to know where they gonna start the tour this time. US again?"

Of course.

Yeah, but this time it's Keith saying it, to a non tabloid serious french magazine...
Did any of you french IORR'ers read the piece? Guess the tour will start in the us, probably the east coast.
KR in Ocho Rios now, getting a tan and reading the script for his forthcomming filmpart... Captain Jack Sparrow's dad. After filming, KR and the band will assemble, probably in Connecticut, to rehearse... Don't tell anyone I said this!

he ALWAYS says that to a "non tabloid"!!

Your itinerary seems to have missed out something of major significance, Margareth - recording sessions! winking smiley

Rehearsals will be in Toronto, as usual, supposedly around June-July.

They wont want to spend too much of the year in the US, apart from the tour, for tax reasons.

All indications are rehearsals June/July.05 in Toronto with Arena/Club gigs starting USA in September.
This will be followed by a far east tour in February.06 then back to Europe for Stadium/Arena/Club gigs starting May.06.
All of this is based upon conversations that people have had with Bernard Fowler & Blondie Chaplin 17/12/04 who stated that they will be rehearsing in Toronto June/July.05 for the new tour starting in Sept.05.
The other parts are supposition and blank spaces have been filled in.
Looks like things are starting to happen with a new album due out summer.05 with a new tour starting Sept.05.
For European fans once the dates are announced officially it will still be 1/1.5 years before we get to see the Stones perform live again in concert.
Overall this is fantastic news for all Stones fans - just a pity they will not switch continents for once & start in Europe then head for America.

This has been their successful MO for decades (78 being the exception). They recoup their production investment in the States and the rest of the world is gravy.

Of course Keith is going to compare the ne dic to Exile.........I mean, what would he compare it to, Made in the Shade,Sucking in the Seventies? I'll settle for Emotional Rescue or Dirty Work

Keith of course is completely straight

Comparing anything to Exile is setting everyone up for a big old slap in the faceb from the reality monkey.

I say don't compare, just make the music and let it stand on its own.

Since 98, they have made return visits to the so called "A-markets", NY, Chicago, etc. I am sure they will continue in this fashion.

Dont stop the new Start me up?? Yeah right. This is no new Exile but if he and Mick really really do see each other and write music not pointless riffs but a whole album then maybe it could be a mature Stones making their new Exile. Like Dylan with Time out of mind. That could be the case but Im not too excited.

It sounds strange to me that Keith has talked about "Don't Stop" as the new "Start me up"...in "According to the Rolling Stones" he speaks about that song in a complete different way...:-/

"got to be worked on

The next one can't be worst than B2B...

Mick has regularly downplayed Exile. I don't think he realizes how good it is. I think the publicity machine may invoke 'Exile' , but artists dont have the best perspective on their own work for obvious reasons. They try to make the best record they can, & if working conditions were depressing (EOMS) that may color perceptions, just as enthusiasm or optimism during recording process may. I recall Mick during Goats Head sessions saying they had lots of 'fast songs, maybe too many.' B2B, when I played it a couple times in Sept, sounds very fresh to me.

Please no not expect an EXOM or BB/LIB/SF which the guys played & recorded from 1968 -1972.
These were exceptional albums & are unlikely ever to be reproduced.
Tatoo You was a good album and the progressive Voodoo Lounge has excellent songs all over it but it does'n't sound like the big 4 therefore Stones fans will not admit that it is a great album but in fact actually it is.
I long for a guatar based Rock /Rythm & Blues new album from the Stones and i am keeping my fingers crossed that the band produces a tremendous album.

another exile??.....ummm...whats the point??....its been done..a long time ago..it cannot and should not be attempted again...onward and upward (hopefully!) and lets live for a new stones lp circa 2004-5, not somethind that might sound like its 30 years old.....they must progress, not regress---doing a so-called retro-sounding lp is one thing, ...trying to recapture past glories is doomed to failure almost every time...why must every new release be compared to exile???....how many of you will admit now to hating it when it was new???...there are alot more of you than will cop to that i'm sure....the stones must produce a contemporary album of the moment, and thats something they have almost always done.

STONES JAM!! MICKEYS RULES!!! (burp) NADER IN 2016!!!!! GO GIANTS!!

Yeah that's right lunar you tell 'em cause we wanna hear what Mick thinks of sex in this day and age not what happened to him 30 odd years ago in the last century. And dont forget, we gotta find out hear if Keith has found that Holy Grail of riff's yet..exciting isn't? Kinda stuff that keeps ya awake at night!!!

According to another thread on this forum this is what Keith actually said:

"We have recorded some stuff on different locations, jsut as we did on "Exile On Main Street", Keith says to the French paper "Folk And Rock"

Nothing to get excited about...

How could anyone even consider an album sounding like, or as good as, Exile? These are different people now. They take Viagra instead of Herion. They don't hang out with Lennon, Parsons, etc. anymore. They have Grandchildren and supermodels kids. They jet set from country to country, yacht to yacht. This is hardly the lifestyle of a band that will make a gritty record. Of course this is just my personal opinion. I happen to enjoy the Stones for what they were, not what they are now.

Re: A new Exile???

You could make the same argument about Bob Dylan who still has managed to make great records in recent years (Time Out of Mind, when he was 56 - and Love & Theft, when he was 60) that stand very favourably against anything he's ever done...and there's no reason to expect that the next one he puts out (hopefully by mid-2005) won't be great as well.

Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen are in their mid 50's and still making great music.

And Johnny Cash died last year at 71 having been making some of the finest and most vital music of his career in the last ten years of his life and was still recording until a few weeks before he died.

Re: A new Exile???

These are all solo artists, and only have to motivate themselves when writing and recording. Of course they play with a band, but clearly Bob, Bruce, etc are in control (at least they should be). The Stones are a band of 4.5 egos, so that could be a limiting factor to roll out the 'next great thing'.

Re: A new Exile???

Not necessarily, Koen.

Mick and Keith for the most part write separately, not together.

They only really collaborate in a creative sense when they get together to make a record.

Point was that even in your 60's and with all the trappings of wealth, there's still precedents when it comes to being able to write quality music and (as Mr D describes it) make a 'gritty' record
