Stones Needle Drop in Perfect Days (Wim Wenders)

There is a Stones needle drop in Wim Wenders new film, Perfect Days, which has got to be in the running for the deepest Stones cut in a film, rivaled only by Scorsese using the Stripped version of Gimme Shelter in
Casino, and Keith’s cover of the Nearness of You in Basquiat (which I think takes the #1 slot). Of course Wes Anderson has used some great deep cuts (She Smiled Sweetly, I Am Waiting, 2000 Man). Anyhow, the entire Perfect Days soundtrack is phenomenal.

What other Stones deep cuts am I missing in film soundtracks?

I find it interesting that they should settle on cuts from what, in the wider world, is a very obscure album.

Most of them are deep, at least for the average fan!

What's a needle drop?

Needle drop - Wikipedia.org . The film's main actor mostly listens to cassette tapes.

It is not really a Stones song though....and it was used in the movie 'What If' before.

But composer/lyricist are Mick Jagger & Keith Richards. Recorded in early September 1964, then originally released by The Mighty Avengers on 16-Jul-1965 - [www.Discogs.com] .

i would think that the use of there version of honest i do in the movie hope floats would count as a pretty deep cut

and the ultimate rolling stones deep cut in a film must be criss cross in the mid 70's japanese film metamorphoses nearly 50 years before the song was officially released

"Jump On Top of Me," in the film, "Pret-a-Porter." So deep it couldn't even be called a "cut;" it never even made it onto "Voodoo Lounge." So deep it was the B-side of that album's second single, "You Got Me Rocking."

Ok, these two definitely take the cake! Haven't even heard of Metamorphoses or Pre-a-Porter. Are they worth watching?

i've never seen metamorphoses either but i understand from reading here on iorr is that the version with criss cross is not avaliable anymore

also since some may not know this

honest i do that's used in hope floats is an outtake from the stripped sessions in 1995 and was only released on the soundtrack for that movie

also mick's re-recording of memory motel for the film beyond the groove should probably get a mention even if it isn't strictly the rolling stones

Sure, Keith wrote it, but the recording is only Mick with session musicians. There's a second take without the full orchestra with Keith singing backup.

But it was never meant to be a song for the Stones, and it was recorded without the Stones.

I honestly don't remember Pret-a-Porter very much. I saw it in the theatre when it first came out, chiefly for the Stones track. As I remember, it was all about the world of high fashion and super models and, consequently, the Stones' music fit like a hand in a glove. Viewing wiki today, the film (released in the US as, "Ready To Wear") looks a little dated. But who knows, maybe worth another visit? [en.wikipedia.org])
