The comparison is rather obvious. Perhaps Brian was the first person to mention it, before everyone else did. It shows that they were very aware of what they were doing. What strikes me the most is the fact that Brian was even there to say this, in mid '68, along with Mick, i.e. at a time he was already totally frustrated with the band, hardly showing up and all.
Mick sounds almost defensive when the interviewer points out that JJ Flash is”basic” compared to the more complex music on Satanic Majesties , and yet it’s one of their greatest songs and better than anything on Satanic.It also sounds like Brian contributed almost nothing to Flash because Mick and he do mention he played soprano sax on Child of the Moon but is silent as to any contribution on Flash
