Yes, in 1982 and 1990.

I think Bill Wyman once said that the recording of Get Off Of My Cloud on the album ‘Got Live if You Want It’ was from Newcastle. Bonus points if 1) anyone can identify the quote—I want to say consult the David Dalton book from 1981; and 2) anyone can definitively identify the source concert of the recording from the Got Live album of Get Off Of My Cloud. I realize overdubs abounded on that album, but I’m just trying to confirm that this song, on that album, was from Newcastle.

I know the Stones played the Club A Gogo a couple times when they were first starting out. I think it was Newcastle's answer to the Marquee Club. The Animals were the house band there for a while. I believe it's been demolished now.

There may not be much fog on the Tyne in May, but Lindisfarne are certainly still around and touring extensively this year, although not playing Newcastle itself whilst you are there. [www.lindisfarne.co.uk]

Newcastle upon Tyne is a thriving city, with a rich history. I would imagine there's lots of guided walks to suit many an interest.

The now defunct Mayfair Ballroom is the place of Led Zeppelin’s U.K. debut after their Scandinavian tour. They were still billed as ‘The Yardbirds’ (not as ‘The New Yardbirds’ as the myth has it). You can see the blue plaque to commemorate this historic significance outside the Gate leisure complex, where the club used to stand.

Trivia:
1. The day Led Zeppelin debuted in the U.K. coincided with the opening date of Cream’s farewell U.S. tour that started from the Oakland Arena. Sort of symbolizing the switch of the roles.
2. In fact, Newcastle is the second most frequent location Led Zeppelin visited to play on their home turf next to London, regardless of including the adjacent Sunderland or not — 7 or 8 times. Impressed?
