My wife and I saw Lisa Fischer with the five piece band Ranky Tanky last night at SF Jazz here in San Francisco.

Lisa is an incredible performer. It was plain to see why back in 1989 the band could see her presence. She, unlike traditional "back-up singers," has the presence to go toe-to-toe with Mick on songs like Gimme Shelter most obviously.

Last night her voice was supreme; her ability to go from wailing to humming, even whistling, provides an incredibly dynamic performance, and she offered re-interpretations of songs by Bonnie Raitt, Dolly Parton (Jolene - holy cow), and a version of You Gotta Move as an encore.

I had no idea what to expect. If you have the chance, I highly recommend checking it out.
