to me,they are not unknown. I saw them in 1982 at the Santa Monica Civic...great show.
Very jealous of you. They were really great live and unfortunately I'm young and discovered them within the last 5 years. They are at the top of my list for a reunion but it seems unlikely. Either way the music is great and spreading that as much as possible. Glad you have heard of them!
Oh Yes! I have all releases by these guys. And besides - they have one of the best band names ever. (I usually check out your posts anyway, MunichHilton)
Add - I try to always find new bands; if not new in time, then new on my own horizon.
Two bands that I can recommend today are the Cynics and the Scientists.

It's Stanley mocking Chaim for his McCartney worship.
But Stanley didnt rip off anybody, he just wrote a Beatle/Paulish-tune.

I found these guys on youtube pretty interesting music and story. A couple of farmers who are brothers from Pacific Northwest completely a DIY effort they even pressed there own vinyl LPs. They released this I believe in 1979.
