Video of an Entwistle bass solo was shown during 5:15. Video of Moon singing his part of the song Bell Boy was also used.

I'm curious about this. Did they actually blend the audio from these videotaped performances into the live mix, or did they just, for example, show a video of John while Pino Palladino played a bass solo?

This would seem to answer my question. Check out what happens at 5:40. Pretty cool, eh?

Wow fantastic. Sounds amazing. Both Daltry and Townshend sound spectacular. Thanks for posting Tatters, I expect a full review after the Detroit show!

How the hell did they pull off Baba O' Riley without Pete? Was there another guitarist sitting in? Only Roger left of the original band members? No wonder they are discounting the tickets on StubHub.

I feel sorry for Pete with his hearing problems, a worse affliction for a Rock guitarist I can not imagine. I hope they work it out and have a decent tour. peace

Pete walks off at 3:54

Roger gamely soldiers on, though I hope this isn't a preview of some future version of the Who in which Roger is the only original member.

Damn, did you see the way Pete just put his guitar down gently and slowly walked off stage?!? That was so dramatic!!! Front page news! tongue sticking out smiley

Pete's definitely mellowed. In the old days, Bobby Pridden would have received his thrashing in full view of the entire audience.

Go on to StubHub, the tickets are MUCH cheaper, many way under face value, especially in Boston at the Banknorth Garden. Tickets as low as $40.

I just checked tickmaster 10:30 EST there are plenty of tickets left for this show. You can get in for $53.00 and move to a better seat.

Thanks tatters your posts tell the whole story. I don't think it likely that Roger would continue on as the Who without Pete, that would be rather tragic and I think he has more class than that. peace

Last time I saw them (2007 I think) I had the impression of a "real" concert. In case of the Stones it was more a show.
Wonderful: Tea and Theatre as the final song again.
And another aspect: Lots of people on the board claimed that a possible Stones tour would start in Europe due to economic problems in the US. So, why do the Who the other way round?!

Economic problems? Plenty to go around but last I heard at least the USA was still solvent. Portugal, Spain, Greece.......

Socialism in Europe has not worked so well...........

Maybe, but it's not that big a leap from "The Who's Roger Daltrey" to "The Who Featuring Roger Daltrey."

At least he's got a full head of hair to grow, and that's his natural color--at 68!

Since the laser surgery restored his voice to full youthful range, he sounds amazing. Back on the Endless Wire tour you would think that surely the days of The Who would be numbered, because of the way Roger would struggle through shows. Now, he sounds like he did 30 years ago and it shows in the way he obviously enjoys being on stage, with the full swagger and confidence of knowing his vocals will sustain him throughout the show without missing a single [even high] note. In the clip posted above of Love Reign O'er Me from the opening night show, he even unbuttoned his shirt and "opened himself up to the audience" and sang with full force the way he used to do when first singing Tommy onstage.

Roger singing to the image of Keith on the big screen. "Ain't you the guy who used to set the paces?" Goosebumps. The Stones could do something like this with a video of Brian, but that would require a degree of sentimentality they may simply not possess.

I don't recall ever reading that. Certainly not from 'lots of people' anyway.

Yes, this video dubbing that The Who are doing sure beats a hologram. However, for The Stones to play along with a clip of Brian, lack of sentimentality aside, they would have to match the rhythmic tempo of their mid-60s selves, and their live tempo seems to have been slowed dramatically, if the recent Paris club gigs are any indication. I wonder what Satisfaction will sound like in slow motion, should they ever decide to perform it live again....

I'm not saying that it can't be done but there's a lot of good film footage of the original Who line up. So easy to find the Oxe soloing or Moonie singing. Is there much of Brian in isolation?

For the past 10 years Pete's brother Simon has played guitar (very low in the mix) on stage with the band.
He also was in Roger's recent touring band.
They just turned his guitar up in the mix as can nbe heard in the videoas of Baba O'Riley from the other night.

I think you've spotted the main obstacle right there. Because there is no footage of Brian later than April 1967, I believe all their concert audio was recorded in mono. It would take a bit of digital trickery to lower the rest of the band's audio around Brian, but even then there is the factor of rate of tempo, as The Stones simply don't play in the same tempo as they did when they were playing live with Brian in the band.

Roger Waters did something similar on the Wall tour when he dueted with himself on Mother from the 1980-81 concerts. Seems to be the new direction bands are going. I for one like it. It makes it feel like the missing members are actually there. BTW, I think the Keith Moon is from Charlton 74 and is available in its original form on the dvd Maximum R and B. (I could be wrong about it being from Charlton though).

After thinking about it, maybe this would be more precise: It was mentioned by some (and not denied by others) that they did not expect a tour of the US due to the economic problems in the US. - I am sure this can be found here.
Probably then, I misinterpreted that as: They mean the Stones will start in Europe.
My opinion: If they start a tour they will start in North America as always. And the Who just go to show.

As an answer to the suggestion of somebody above: I'm afraid there are hardly Socialists to be found in Europe anymore. Even if their parties call themselves "socialist" (as in France f.e.) they are more "social democrats" which might mean that they are more related to Obama than to Romney.

Shout out to tommyquinn, trainarollin and tatters.

I need a "spirit guide" for getting tickets for the Who in las Vegas Feb. 8.

What would be your "play"? Do I use Stubhub or Ticketmaster? What is the time element involved between electronically purchasing the tickets and actually getting them in my hand? I don't need front row. I'd be more than happy with middle to middle-forward. Your help in my quest would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yep. Charlton '74. I love this clip. Fumbling with the headphones, lunging for Roger's mike, playing with one hand while holding the mike with the other. It's a particularly endearing performance.
