Chuck Leavell says......(From www.RocksOff.org)
Posted by: JumpingKentFlash ()
Date: December 17, 2004 03:23

Over at the forum on www.rocksoff.org a guy posted this from the New York Daily News. I don't think I saw it here so here you go:

Stones to keep rolling:
-----------------------
That was longtime Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell predicting over breakfast the other day that Mick, Keith and the boys will stage a world tour next year. Besides 61-year-old Jagger and Richards, that includes 57-year-old Ron Wood and 63-year-old Charlie Watts. "What are they gonna do - sit home and watch TV?" asked the 52-year-old Leavell, who's just published his memoirs, "Between Rock and A Home Place," about his life as a musician and forest conservationist in Georgia.

No offense to Chuck... Who seems like a nice guy... But what is with publishing an autobiography??

I think Blondie should though.

I tell, we're going to get the same as we got since 1989: Don Was behind the board, Chuck Leavell, Lisa, Daryll, Blondie, Bernard, two Keith songs, 3 true Stones rockers, 3 Mick pop bullshit, and 2 "modern" songs, most likely one produced by Pharrell Williams or N.E.R.D. and the other mixed by Wycleff Jean.

I agree, Blondie should write a book explaining his hairstyle. It is bizarre, and yet it works for him on some level. He is a ripped dude.

HE is bizarre. A sort of stage freak. Not really sure why he's there. But he does provide some visual balance. Perhaps a backup trio looks better than a duo.

Re new album: Mathjis is most likely right - but it appears at least that Keith and Mick have been writing/working together. Let's keep (realistically) optimistic.

I liked Bernard before (& after) he was involved w/the Stones (Material, Tackhead, etc). Darryl hardly played on B2B. Blondie has been involved with lots of great projects, going back to the Beach Boys' "Holland" era. Chuck - well, I didn't like Sea Level.

Sick and tired of this anti Chuck, Daryll, Lisa, Berard etc.......

Probably they are quite much better than these self proclaimed musicians on this board.....

Problably must off them (musicians on this board) barely can play any instruments - just some rubbish instrument playing... tingle tangle on a guitar / drum or whatever and then they think they are heaven on earth ......

I doubt any of you guys can reach thesame leavell as Dryll f.x.

Country Honk - it's not a question of their musicianship. As jr says they (and especially Blondie) have done lotsa good stuff.

It's a question of what they add to the Stones on stage. Imho (obviously) he adds nothing but a weird balancing presence. Part of the 'act' I suppose. Bernard actually does compliment Mick to a large extent.

Bernard is a very talented singer. He's got a set of pipes and so does Lisa!!!! Blondie is very talented, he's a one man band, dudes!

from a purely musical point of view (not rs point of view as a band) lisa should get much more space in concerts . she is in my mind the most talented individual musician of them all..

it would be great to hear from her a standard blues number, maybe one tina turner number, etc, with the rough rs instrumental groove beneath

( ok shoot me...)

This is slightly OT, but thinking of Lisa I am reminded of Sara Dash's great contributions to Keith's solo tours, especially their soulful duet on 'Time Is On My Side.' A perfect vocal foil for Keith. With all these latter-day divas singing like synthesizers, Sara is a great vocalist who probably met the Stones in 1963--64 while in Patti Labelle & the Bluebells (later Labelle - proto-Lesbo funk/soul, NOT at all like later Patti dreck). I suppose Sara couldnt get a record contract , but I saw her in the mid 90s at a club show & she did 2 Stones songs (1 was a cool re-arrangement of 'Rock & A Hard Place') in a overall superb set. If Ian McLagan isn't going to happen again, Ivan Neville would be a nice replacement for Chuck.

For Mathijs

Perhaps you write some songs for them.
With your talent.
Will be no problem.
And you can also play all the guitars.
As I read so many topics off , Keith or Ronny can play guitar.
Chuck is an a..hole in your opinion.

Chuck is a very nice person.

i have nothing against CL
and he is a very lucky person
to be an instrumental part of the RS musical setup,
Mybe the reason some persons that talk badly about him, is that they envy him?

No. It's because he plainly doesn't fit in.

I think Bernard is great and Lisa is almost worth the price of admission just for her amazing roof-lifting vocals on Gimme Shelter. Chuck's keyboards aren't to my taste either (most of the time) but remember he is also musical director and the VL/B2B/Licks shows may not have sounded so good without him at the helm. According to an interview with him in the latest Shattered mag he is always pushing Mick to try out more unusual numbers but it's Mick who wants to play safe.

I kind of like Chuck - but that's probably because I'm an Allman Brothers fan and Chuck's work on songs like Jessica and High Falls is outstanding. The guy can play, improvise and jam. Some of the live versions of High Falls from the Chuck/Lamar era just blow me away. Chuck still guests with the ABB sometimes and plays the legendary Jessica solo among other tunes.

If Keith doesn't like Chuck Leavell, then how come Chuck is playing keyboards on Hail! Hail! Rock'n'Roll ? And how come Chuck was invited to Keith's home studio to play piano on Marsha Hansen's CD ?

If there will be a new album, I think that is great news. I didn't suspect a new album. If it will be a good one, let's wait and see.
