ANOTHER COMPILATION Album ... This One I've Never Even Heard Of
Posted by: schillid ()

Some of you must know it. I've never heard of this authorized release before ... An old compilation. Grrr.

From: [www.rollingstones.com]

TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE
Released May,1979

One of the rarest Rolling Stones albums in that it only had a limited release in certain countries and was withdrawn after a short time on sale.
It’s a compilation that covers the period from Sticky Fingers in 1971 until Love You Live in 1977. Only two of ten singles that were released during the period are included – “Angie” and “Fool to Cry”. Among the ten tracks are three from Goats Head Soup and the same number from Black and Blue. If you see it grab it, it’s rare.

TRACKS
1 Time Waits for No One
2 Bitch
3 All Down the Line
4 Star Star
5 Dancing With Mr D
6 Angie
7 If You Can’t Rock Me
8 Hand of Fate
9 Crazy Mama
10 Fool to Cry

Pretty sure they've had more compilation albums than new studio albums

Worth noting that the Time waits for no One features a longer outro of the song of the same title, than the version on the IORR album. It's just the "click clack" that goes on longer, but still....

I like that record but I never understood why they included Bitch and Angie, since they were also released on Made in the Shade

Was only issued in the UK. Never released on CD as far as I'm aware.

TWFNO was a compilation of the WEA era on Rolling Stones Records, released after the band had moved to EMI.

Similarly, EMI released 'Rewind' after the band parted company and went to CBS.

Sorry mate, that's wrong. It was released in Germany/Austria and at least in Portugal and New Zealand as well. That's where my copies are from.
There was even some kind of marketing here in Austrian newspapers - I still recall that I've learned about the release on the following Monday while spending the Sunday at a lake.

A hilarious and great compilation and a fitting one of the two punch that was finished with Sucking In The Seventies.

Looking at a discography I'm counting at least (as I'm not sure if there's more than mentioned here) 30. That's one more than there are studio albums. It should also be noted that the 29 number for studio albums does count both U.S. and U.K. versions of albums.

You must have typed of the Wikipedia article for this album as well, as it calls it a "British-only compilation".

I suggested this first in another thread... They can release a Boxed Set: A Collection of Compilations!
Just think... 2016 will be the 50th anniversary of "High Tide and Green Grass"...

Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) (US)
Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) (UK)
Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2)
Stone Age
Gimme Shelter
Hot Rocks 1964–1971
Milestones
Rock'n'Rolling Stones
More Hot Rocks (Big Hits & Fazed Cookies)
No Stone Unturned
Metamorphosis
Made in the Shade
Rolled Gold: The Very Best of the Rolling Stones
Time Waits for No One
Solid Rock
Slow Rollers
Sucking in the Seventies
Rewind (1971–1984)
Singles Collection: The London Years
Jump Back: The Best of The Rolling Stones
Forty Licks
Rarities 1971–2003
GRRR!

I've probably left some off. I notice that Wiki lists "Flowers" a compilation. But I think most some* people consider that one as a studio album.

* EDIT

If I recall right, THROUGH THE PAST, DARKLY has, like BIG HITS, an UK and US versions. Slightly different tracks.

Consider me to not be "most people" as I know it is (which means it's a fact) a compilation.

What I like about many of these compilations is that they compile a decade or a certain period. It gives them coherence. I done well a Sucking in the 80's and a Sucking in the 90's & 00's might have been nice. An easy way to just the gems of the two periods. And a maybe with greater coherence than the actual albums (especially VL, BTB and ABB ).

* EDIT

Depends where you live. In the UK, its considered a compilation. In the US, it was issued primarily to round up a lot of songs which were unreleased/hard to find, so for fans there it could be considered 'new'.

I was in that latter group... Songs on Flowers that were new to us in the US because they had been omitted from US versions of Buttons or Aftermath.

Ruby Tuesday and LSTNT were not exactly "new".

Yep, there is way more smiling smiley

Here are some of my favourites, on the top of my head:

Flowers is not a studio album, it's loaded with album and EP-tracks + a couple of new ones and some that didn't make the US Aftermath release.

TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE
Released May,1979

One of the rarest Rolling Stones albums in that it only had a limited release in certain countries and was withdrawn after a short time on sale.
It’s a compilation that covers the period from Sticky Fingers in 1971 until Love You Live in 1977. Only two of ten singles that were released during the period are included – “Angie” and “Fool to Cry”. Among the ten tracks are three from Goats Head Soup and the same number from Black and Blue. If you see it grab it, it’s rare.

TRACKS
1 Time Waits for No One
2 Bitch
3 All Down the Line
4 Star Star
5 Dancing With Mr D
6 Angie
7 If You Can’t Rock Me
8 Hand of Fate
9 Crazy Mama
10 Fool to Cry

Here's the back cover:
