Know a bunch of folks who were Grateful Dead fans and a couple of people who worked for the band, and I can assure you Mickey Hart, a former New Yorker, was never a peace loving hippie. On more than a few occasions Hart has beat the crap out of an overzealous wannabe, or someone demanding something he wasn't prepared to give.Steve Parrish, a long time GD employee said, "You really don't want to @#$%& with Mickey.Unlike the rest of these guys, he will kick your ass".

He looks peace loving to me. He left the band in 1971 for 3.5 years and came back in 1974. His father (Lenny Hart) was working for the band doing the books and ripped them off for around $100,000 (a lot of money in 1970).

Mickey Hart should be beat up for those endless, tedious drum solos.

""A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Mickey Hart -- former drummer for the Grateful Dead -- after the musician allegedly attacked someone at a recent concert ... TMZ has learned.

Multiple law enforcement agencies tell TMZ ... Hart -- real name Michael Hartman -- has been accused of assaulting a person at a Mickey Hart Band show on Sept. 8 at Terrapin Hill Farm in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.

Hart played with the Dead between 1967 and 1995 ... the year Jerry Garcia passed away.

The details surrounding the alleged attack are unclear ... but the alleged victim filed a police report following the incident and initiated assault charges.

We're told it's standard practice in Kentucky to issue a warrant as soon as an alleged victim decides he or she wants to press charges.

Mickey's camp tells us they're looking in to the situation.""
=============================================

Dang, what is the world coming to when one can
not play a show without having to kick someone's ass?

Sly Stallone never played drums. And hey, you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of the knuckles that hit the snare drum for the Rolling Stones, would you? Just ask Mick Jagger on that one!

I think Levon Helm was a tad pugnacious too, ditto Max Roach, and John Bonham.

Note how, in my previous posting, I never mentioned Moon. Moon may have smashed things up, but I don't think he ever hit anybody.

I know that Bonham was prone to hitting and kicking.

Pretty sure I think I read in Ian McLagan's book (Mac married Moon's ex-wife Kim) that Moonie was very partial to a bit of 'cross gender boxing'.....it's been documented in other biographies too, as far as I recall.

Just that Hart is a high energy dude. Not a mellow, laid back guy like Garcia or Weir.

"has been accused of assaulting a person at a Mickey Hart Band show"

Well, Keef assaulted a person at a show in 1981 with his Telecaster so what's the news? smiling smiley

Seriously, this news flash doesn't tell anything so I'll wait for more info before making any judgements...

Mickey was always a true gentleman when I was able to hang out with him. Never once saw his violent side. He was into the magic of music and rhythms day and night.

I think the most absurd thing I ever heard of him doing was tripping with his horses on a long ride in Marin county. Not sure the horses had much to say about it. There is probably a spiritually advanced breed of them horses still hanging up there somewhere. peace
