Thanks for posting...have seen this before but nice to see it again. No matter what your opinion is about what happened in the end to Brian, all the comments from many of the people that knew him are always interesting. Good to see the comments from Dick Taylor from The Pretty Things and their original bass player. smiling smiley

Hmmm... I suspect you're quite right, HM. I expected a bit more from this doc, especially with the post-2005 presence of Terry Rawlings. Tom Keylock had a lot more to do with it than has been officially handed down, and Rawlings documents their [Keylock's and Thorogood's] shady collusions even in his book about their return to the scene 25 years later. Until 2044, we'll be left to speculate on just who and how many knew exactly what.

Anyone care to speculate on the mythical Nicholas Fitzgerald, the alleged friend of Brian who stumbled onto the scene that night and who witnessed the murder from behind the nearby trees only to encounter Keylock on the grounds of Cotchford warning him to get away otherwise "you'll be next!"? Fitzgerald wrote a biography published around 1985 but was allegedly chased off his own estate by those, even then, dedicated to maintaining the coverup.

Anyone? Who was Nicholas Fitzgerald?

It was still nice to hear comments from Gered Mankowitz, Dick Taylor and Keith Altham, and one of the original band members from The Animals.

Between 42:39 - 43:00 sounds logical to me. She seems to be the only trustworthy person in this story anyway....

Anna Wohlin does make sense here. Janice sees or doesnt see Frank kill Brian in a rage (manslaughter), Frank returns, he's in schock, he doesnt help Brian out of the pool because that means he will go to jail for attempted manslaughter.

Here's the Stones from 25x5 talking about Brian.

Thanks Stonesnow. Keith is so expresssive with his hands and body language you can almost tell what he is saying without listening to the damn audio! I guess that is why he is such a good musician because it's all about communication. peace

In that 25x5 clip does Keith actually say he and Mick told Brian "Hey c o c k, you're fired!" ?? Is that some English expression or is he picking this up from the great influences of New York? Too much! peace

Literally? No way ... aren't those Cotchford Farm shots of them three jamming
on or around the firing? Charlie never put it that way as Keith says ...

Yes, "cock" is Cockney London slang, meaning "mate" or "chum".

Ray Davies explains it to a non-UK audience from his Storyteller show:

RD: Larry [Page, one of their managers] always referred to me as 'cock'. No, no. Cock is a London expression for mate, chum. 'Ello cock! 'Ow are you, cock? How's your cock, cock? Awright?

Bill Wyman tells of hearing about Brian's death, plus the clip of Mick's eulogy to Brian at the Hyde Park concert, both from 25x5.

A fine explanation with references? You rock! peace

I remember seeing a photo of that in a book some 30 years ago. It was either in Mandy Aftel's Death of a Rolling Stone or in the 20th anniversary coffee table book from that time, but there was a late 60s photo of Mick, Keith and Brian sitting in what looked to be the room of a country manor and the caption under the photo read: "Once more for old time's sake: Keith and Mick visit Brian at Cotchford Farm on June 8, 1969 for one last jam session."

Ever see that photo? It's in black and white. I don't have those books anymore, so I can't check up on it right away, but I do remember that particular photo.

Is it this photo? Probably, not....

This is at Redlands. Aftel's book doesn't have the photo you mentioned.

Ah, OK you're right, that's the photo I remember. And thanks, by the way!

That's by Michael Cooper, circa March - April 1969 at Redlands. It can be dated roughly due to the fact Ry Cooder was there in other photos from same day.

Thanks for clarifying HM. I jumbled the memory of the caption in my head.

And those we have seen. Also Brian looks like he does in those David Bailey shots.

And Keith looks a bit like this:

Yup, both are from April 1969.

The pics of her with striped clothing aren't from backstage at Hyde Park.

By the way, for the technologically impaired, how do you upload a photo into a post so that it's just the photo and not the link to the photo? I tried the 'copy image' function, but it doesn't work. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

I remember that caption too, but forgot it was Redlands. Jones doesn't look happy at all ...
and more tired than wasted. As if, "Why are we doing this, exactly, when noone wants
my input on record?" Reaching, I know, but that's probably what was in his head.
