Agree. To my ears, more Otis than Janis.

...If you get the chance to see them live (and you haven't already): go and DO so. You'll be in for a treat!

Not their best tune, imo, but I'm in love with that Gibson SG's she's playing. Great sound and what a beauty... peace

I heard them for the first time this past weekend on SNL.

FANTASTIC BAND... I haven't enjoyed a new band so much in a long time.

Downloaded album the next day on iTunes. Great stuff.

I don't like them, but I like select songs. That Hold On song was good, but I thought the rest of the album was blah. I thought Always Alright in Silver Linings Playbook was great. And I thought the second song on SNL was excellent. So clearly I'm not closed minded to them. But I have so many people telling me how much they love them that it annoys me. To me, they are the same as everyone else. Not in sound, but in just being a band thats fine but not the second coming people are hoping for.

I will say though, I like them better than newer people like Arcade Fire, since I at least like some of Alabama Shakes' songs whereas there are other newer bands that people love that I haven't gravitated towards any of it.

REALLY dig this band. Saw them a few weeks ago at the Beacon.

Here's a stellar performance on Letterman a few years ago:

Here's the single from the new album, which comes out APRIL 20...

Reminds me of another band.

Anyone hear their new record yet? Good piece on them in the Sunday NY Times magazine last week. I wish these kids well, they are doing it for all the right reasons.

Reminds me of Ike and Tina meets STAX.
