When you limit it to one song per act obviously it will not actually be the top 100 classic rock songs. From what I've seen of the list some songs listed aren't even the best song by that artist let alone top 100. "Turn the page" is better than "Against The Wind"?

"Lyin' awake in a cold, cold sweat. Am I overdrawn, am I going in debt?
It gets worse, the older that you get. No escape from the state of confusion I'm in.

I always thought classic rock comprised artists like Chuck Berry, Bill Hailey and Elvis. Artists from the birth of Rock and roll, in other words the fifties. How can you do a list of 100 classic rock songs and exclude such legends?

The reality of it is time is waiting for no one and the people voting for this stuff are 35 and below. They can't comprehend who my Dad, Bill Hailey or Elvis Presley are.

"Classic Rock" has been self defined by the airwave programmers; they would never play Berry, Haley, or Elvis on such radio stations, etc. The latter artists would be classified as being in the genre of "Jukebox Oldies." However, I must admit that I wouldn't mind hearing a bit of "Maybellene" and such once in a while during the daytime on a "Classic Rock" station because it would mix it up a little. In fact, it would be great if those stations brightened it up and broadened their horizons. It would also be good for the younger generation to hear from where the roots of "Classic Rock" came from, so to speak

i am less than 35 btw and i know your dad is living legend. i also like whenever i see him on tv or doing interviews he always comes off as a true gentlemen and scholar. i'm sure it pisses him off after all the sacrifices he made in his lifetime to get respect that he can turn on mtv and see the kids in music today wearing their pants down to their knees and talking as if they never went to school 1 day

Some of them actually have come from very hard lives. The sad thing is, even with their success some still act like they are living in horrible conditions. There's countless numbers going to jail for idiotic circumstances. I'm not talking about being caught with a joint rather having weapons, drug dealing and senseless fighting. It cuts across every genre of music today. These guys are in desperate need of deprogramming.

What does everyone think of this list? [ultimateclassicrock.com]
This list encapsulates the songs one would expect to hear on a "classic rock and roll" radio station. It does not say "best rock", or "best rock and roll songs"... it say CLASSIC... which is a stupid term the "encapsualtors" have come up with to market their ads played on their radio station to a certain demographic...

...and of course this board (predictably) hates that list... what else would you expect?

Cool! Greetings from England Charles. If you speak to your Dad today, let him know that his classics will be getting played in my household over the forthcoming three-day weekend. My Dad is 70 and has been a big fan of Chuck since he was a teenager in the 50s. Btw, I'm 40 and grew up listening to rockers like your Dad, Elvis, Carl Perkins, JL Lewis so there are a few of us "kids" out there who will do our best to pass it on!

This is actually a fair representation of the play list of most classic rock radio stations in the U.S.

It's also why there aren't that many classic rock radio stations any more.
