The Most Powerful Addiction In The World: The Rolling Stones
Posted by: stonescrow ()

Dear Mates,

I tried, I really tried. I was once addicted to bowling. Later, I became addicted to golf. I was able to walk away from both. I was once addicted to corn chips but quit cold turkey over twenty five years ago. Haven't had one since. I have overcome every addiction I have ever had in my sixty plus years on this earth. Except one! I am finding quitting the Rolling Stones to be much more difficult than any addiction I have ever faced. When I say "quitting" the Rolling Stones I am talking about not getting up every morning and running to the computer to read the latest news regarding the band then checking IORR for discussion on that news.

Do any of you feel like you are addicted to the Stones? I mean, many of us spend a great deal of time here. For me, I have enjoyed the soap opera of the last five years since ABB, but I must admit my patience is finally beginning to wear thin. A friend of mine has been telling me for several years that the Stones have no intention of ever touring again and that the only reason they "hint" at touring is just to promote their re-issues, books, documentaries, etc.. I do not share his belief, but will be very disappointed if he turns out to be right.

Signed,

Hopelessly Addicted.

This is way more realistic. 'Habit' is a safe way of saying it:

Experts say a New Zealand woman's 2-gallon-a-day Coca-Cola habit probably contributed to her death, a conclusion that led the soft-drink giant to note that even water can be deadly in excessive amounts.

How deductive of Coca-Cola to say such a thing.

I try to practice moderation in all things, but so far it hasn't worked in regards to the Stones.

Don't worry. No matter what you do it won't hurt you like a real addiction.

Well, it could get a fellow divorced! I know at least two individuals who's wives divorced them because they were spending too much time on the golf course. I was one of those individuals! No kidding!

Probably because our brains are just wired differently.

The divorce rate among Greens-keepers must be astronomical!

Brown Sugar of course is about how addictive music is.

And then there's this:

Cause music is want I want
To keep my body always moving
Yeah, shake it up, hot stuff

Everyday I get another dose
I can't stand it when the music stops
Hot stuff

Everybody on the dance floor
You know what I'm talking about
Music make you forget all your trouble
Make you sing and make you tell the whole wide world
So what! Hot stuff

I think it is more the soap opera than the actual music if I am being perfectly honest.

I wouldn't argue with that...they certainly are.

And, certainly our life experiences. I grew up surrounded by characters. I am a huge fan of Phil Hendrie, Don Rickles, Barney Fife, Groucho Marx, and Don Cherry if that tells you anything. Was introduced to sports very young. Was used to being in the spotlight as a child. Played QB from the time I was 9 all the way through high school. Was raised on drama. To me the Stones are just entertainment, a live cartoon. I like their characters as much as I do their music.
