69 Tour Photo Thread Updated! Photo heavy!
Posted by: Nasty Habits ()
Date: April 16, 2012 02:05

I've been looking through at the 70/71 tour photo thread. I've spent many hours scanning the net and my collection of books looking for photos from the 69 tour. It would be nice to see more photos taken by fans that were at shows on that tour.

I wasn't even a twinkle in my fathers eye in 69. He was lucky enough to see them in 63 and 65. Had I of been let's say 26 years older (that would make me 18 in 69) I would of been on a plane from Heathrow just to see them on that tour!

I've spent months also looking for exterior photos of the venues that were taken around that period. I've managed to find some nice photos o!f Oakland coliseum, Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, LA Forum, Civic Center Baltimore, The Spectrum Philadelphia and Madison Square Garden that were taken around that time. I will put them on here over the next few days. Surely somebody on here was at one of the shows and took photos outside of the venue before the show.

Nasty H., - always liked that 2.Mick pic (standing on one leg on the star) from your 2. post.
Do you or anyone know where that was released/ printed first time?
I always loved the E. Russel photos but this one I only remember from bootleg covers ( back of "Cocaine on a dentist chair". I always wondered where it's from? Maybe a Dalton book?

Is that Bill Graham ducking in front of the stage in one of the Oakland shots?

The Auburn Coliseum. It has a different name now. The elusive 69 tour stop.

I think it was recently torn down.

I have photos of all the venues from the tour but I've been searching for photos taken as close to 1969 as possible. I can't seem to find any of Auburn from around 69. I've only managed to find that same photo. Chicago and Detriot are proving to be the same problem. Thanks for posting it though. Maybe there's somebody on here that studied at Auburn or Dallas and has photos of the venues from that era.

I don't have many 1969 pics but I just love this one for the colors:

I went to the 1969 Stones Concert at the Los Angeles Forum. I remember that it started a couple of hours late, like 12:30 AM in the morning instead of 11 pm.

The National Organization for Women was at the concert, protesting and picketing the Stones for their anti-woman lyrics in two songs, Stupid Girl, and Under My Thumb. They didn't try to stop people from entering just gave out handbills and such. That was the first concert I had attended.

Thanks! That's a great photo and one I've never seen before, but have seen another pic of Mick wearing that top, probably from the same show. Would love to know which show it's from.

Aha, further consultation reveals it was one of the MSG shows.

Hey Nasty Habits. I bought these pics years ago from a guy on Ebay. He said the snapshots were taken by his dad, who was on security detail backstage at the L.A. Forum.

Yeah, Nasty Habits - i figured it was photos from the era you were looking for. And that was what I was searching for. There seems to be a reason that Auburn remains the unknown gig from 69. It is almost impossible to dig up anything.
Several here must have done similar searches because I also bumped into that string of pics of Jagger with Ike and Tina
Re the venue having been torn down; what I saw was the name had been changed a couple of times. But I am really not sure if this is the same venue.
NH, a while back I was contacted by the guy who was the actual promoter for the Auburn show. He knew I was very curious about it. He gave me his cell # and I talked with him for a long time.
I posted about the phone conversation here; lots of details re. the show.
And I recall: deepurple, a member of IORR attended both Auburn shows.
