If that's true, its very hard to understand why neither the Stones with
Bigger Bang nor U2 with No Line On The Horizon followed suit, nor Bruce
with Wrecking Ball, nor any other big ticket act that I know of that is/was
having trouble moving as many albums as they once did...
except for now suddenly madonna.
Anybody know for sure?

I've argued for this many times before. Even if it isn't a physical CD, but simply a download code on each and every ticket, who cares?
The music gets permeated out to the audience that go to the shows. The ticket buyer feels like they're getting a bonus for the $300+ they're spending for a ticket, and then there is even an argument for more songs from the new album to be played at the show.
If they are including these sales as 'official sales', great. If not, still who cares because the Stones (and almost every other rock act) are not really moving albums anymore...there are other sources of revenue, not least of which are the live shows. Bundling IMHO would be a perfect way to address the new reality.
