Blue And Lonesome

I'm blue and lonesome
As a man can be
I'm blue and lonesome
Whoa-oh
As a man can be
I don't have headaches
Over myself
My love is gone away from me

Baby, ple-e-ease!
Come on back home to me
Baby, ple-e-ease, yeah
Come on back home to me
Yeah my, heart is full of misery
Baby, you won't be sweet to me

(harmonica & instrumental)

I'm gonna cast my trouble
Down in the deep blue sea
I'm gonna cast my trouble
Yeah, down in the deep blue sea
Let the whales and the fishes
Have a fuss over me.

I think they nailed it. Like the other Little Walter tunes, they sound much like the original, this is one where the guitar work shines!

Although I prefer Mick's vocals on the other 3 little walter covers, this one I think Little Walter outdoes Mick.

Still, a wonderful cover, a great choice, and they certainly do it justice!

What can I say, except, I love me some Mick Jagger.
The vocals, his lament, he's yelling he's missing me, wants me to come home,
then harps like a desolate prisioner.
Yah, I got the blues for you.

ETA: guitars are good, too.

Heavy stuff. Very nice guitar-work, vocals, and harp, but the song itself is a downer, with its bluer-than-blue vocals and dirge-like beat.

Atmosphere is everything on this song. I let them take me into the swamps, cast a spell
on me and infect me with their lonesomeness. All I can do is drown with them in misery.
Brilliant playing by the whole band.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

One of the best tracks on what is a fantastic album, personally I prefer the slower, heavier songs.

Never heard the original before.

I still think the intro sounds like it's gonny lead in to Harlem Shuffle.

Respectfully disagree here. Slow blues can't get more emotional and neck-hair raising than on their take of Walter's "Blue & Lonesome". It's one of the, if not the standout track(s) on the album. IMO, at least.

That's all right smiling smiley

But what about Little Rain - inferior to Blue And Lonesome?

PS: Don't forget that he said ut was THE ONLY great track on the album - I disagree strongly!

Little Rain is definitely not inferior to Blue And Lonesome! I love the album as a whole, so it's impossible for me to point out "weak tracks" - if anything, it depends on the mood for me which tracks I prefer to others at any given time. For example, I can usually not listen to Goin' Home from Aftermath in the morning, but it's still a great "night track" and one of my favourites from the early Stones. But Blue And Lonesome being "the only great track on the album"? Naaaaaaah, not at all.

To me "Blue and Lonesome" stood out as the best song the very first time I listened to the album.

Now, after having listened to the album 10 to 20 times, it is still my favorite track.

This has nothing to do with the fact that it is the title track.

Ha! But I then went back ^ to article posted by Rockman:
'paints a vivid picture of how dark his moods could get'
I'm gonna cast my troubles in the deep blue sea,
let the waves and the fishes have a fuss over me.

I dunno man, it is depressing. Sometimes it is. I got nothing cheerful here.

Agreed. This song is the deepest shade of blue that exists, and the problem for me is there's nothing to hold onto here to transcend and escape the feeling.

the more I listen to it the more I like it and the guitar work and lament from Jagger is just ridiculously good...the most sincere and honest he's sounded in decades....this record hits the reset button...what will they do next?....

It`s great. I hope that`s not because I haven`t heard the original. I was about to say that everything that reminds me of The Animals` "House of The Rising Sun" is good. Then I came to think of Pink Floyds`s "High Hopes", that is a bit too similar for it`s own good. Well, back to B&L, the slower tracks are the best. It`s easiest to count the lesser tracks, IMO, such as "I Gotta Go", "Hate To See You Go", and "Just Like I Treat You".

I mean it's great, but the only thing that's slightly bothering me is Ronnie's hysteric out of tune bends throughout the song. I get it, it's a nod to the original, but it becomes a bit too much, maybe he could have done it more subtle.

It's also the song that started it all, as far as this record goes. Keith's brainchild. Keith and Ronnie had a plan going into pre-production rehearsals. And it worked. Great song too!
